My Polara was heating up and spewing out coolant so I put in a recovery tank, new temp gauge and added Purple Ice to coolant and seems to be running at about 190 which is good and tank is helping out. HOWEVER, I noticed when I parked my car and turned it off the temp rises to bout 220-230 and takes a while to come down, what could be the issue? also has a lot of pressure on radiator hose. On same note when was driving and stopped at light it rose to about 200 but when ran it came down to 190....help? 68 dodge polara rear pic.jpg68 dodge polara pic.jpg68 dodge polara interior.jpg68 dodge polara engine.jpg

Not to get off topic but you have a very nice car welcome.

And noticed the huge dent in the drivers door how did that happen?

When I had similar issues with my Monaco with mild rebuilt 440 I put in lower temp thermostat and no problems since.

yes, I shot it at Hoses from radiator and also where gauge is plugged in and was abt same temp

It's not unusual for the temperature to rise when the car sits. The water isn't circulating and the engine is still very hot from running.

Welcome to the site from the Motor City! That car is familiar, did you buy it recently? I think it was a members car if that's the case. I remember the dent but a nice car in spite of it. I'd check the stat.

More concerned with the fact that the temp rises while at a red light. Sounds like it has a circulation problem get the rad flushed professionally. It wouldn't hurt to replace the stat anyways but if it is holding at 190 while driving it is likely working. As for temp rising once shutdown this is normal and pressure will build. If it seems high replace the rad cap as it is designed to hold about 14psi only.

I would be more concerned with the heating at idle. This is an indication of poor circulation and the rad likely needs to be professionally flushed, take it to a rad shop for this. The stat is must be working as it is holding temp during normal operation, good idea to change on a frequent basis anyways. Heating on shutdown is normal and the hose getting hard is due to pressure increases from the heat. When you get the rad done replace the rad cap as it should only hold 14 - 15psi at the most.

Looks like a new aluminum rad.

Looks like it's for sale again on facebook. Saw a post from Mr. Fernandez this morning.
