Anybody speak Dave? If so, please translate this into English for the rest of us.

Connecticut and Jersey ?!? You guys are just pikers when compared to the Socialist Republic of Maryland. We just received a .20 per gallon gas tax hike. . . AND we are gonna get .40 more by 2016 !

I just gotta get the hell outa here. . .

The Governor of the People's Republic of Maryland..... O'Malley who will be running for President in 2016.

Keep an eye on that snake. He'll be ready to destroy the United States of America after he finishes up here in Maryland......

And he's related to Nancy Pelosi.

Gotta get past the Man, Christie...

Yeah which one's going to out Democrat the other..... Though O'malley doesn't have a snowballs chance in hell to get the nod. No one outside of MD has heard of him. And he aint half black. Or from Kenya. Or likable. Or Hillary.

Of the People's Republic of NJ? Can't stand that guy either, RiNO all the way. And his stance on gun ownership kills it for most of the country. The latest vote for whatever it was is only a show, and to try to get rotunda into the good graces of the NRA. Just check his previous stances on "private gun ownership" he's lock step with the present resident of 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.

No pics yet but got a new bucket for welding and id like to report that we should be moving at an increased pace. The new bucket has lots of viewing room, I dont get flashed anymore. So lets just say I had about 2.5 feet of patch to weld in today and didnt want to stop. Welds look better, penetration is MUCH better and only one burn through today. I attribute it to being able to finally see. If i didnt run out of argon I would have been able to finish. Thers always next week, after brew day that is.

Sorry I just had to share.

Oh and I found a supplier for steel up here so I dont have to buy small sheet at home depew anymore.

Cowboys won , Giants lost....

Best Sunday ever.

ok I had a little time today. Got the quarter cleaned up in the garage and began the process of mocking it up. Not too bad for an amatuer.. I think. First patch is in front of the rear tire. I don't think it'll take much to finish it out. Looks better cleaned up and on the car.

Yes the cut line isn't straight. I decided to cut through each of the pop-rivets so I would have less holes to fill when it's time to weld it back in.

Yes I'm slow but there's no rush, I still need a transmission rebuild.. :)

That top butt weld along the whole length of the quarter from the door back.
That's where I failed miserably.

Well since I'm an amateur myself I can relate from my experiences, thought some of them are more than likely wrong.

Get a helmet (auto-darkening or otherwise) that fits well, and has the most viewing area you can buy.
Practice.

The next two helped me alot;
Making the pieces fit a close as possible without touching is likely the biggest advance I've made.
Tack the pieces together planish and allow the weld to cool before placing the next tack.

The best way to understand why you want to planish each weld is to take a small piece of sheet, cut through the center. You now have to pieces that should fit together exactly. You may have to flatten (hammer/dolly) them out after you cut but the butt should be extremely close. lay them on your welding table or whatever surface you use so that the two cut pieces come together. Tack one end. You should notice that the tack spread the opposite end of the two pieces. Planish the weld with hammer and dolly and the far edge should com back together. When it returns to the point where is was before the first tack, place another tack an inch further down the seam and repeat.

And I run my mig what most would consider way to hot. Actually, it is way to hot but I have a reason. As I'm partially placing additional tacks, over existing clod tacks, I think it's wise for penetration. I'm running on settings that would penetrate on about 3/16 if I ran for any length of time longer than a quick flip of the trigger.

This is the article I read when I started;

What he did with the Camaro is amazing. The skill this guy has is incredible.

I'll add this thread too. I saw this years ago and said I'd never complain about rust. Every once in a while I have to go back and look at it just to remind myself what i could be dealing with rather than what i am dealing with. Its about 7 pages long.

Oh. And the biggest, Patience.

Yeah, that's my worry. I have two feet of quarter panel that I haven't figured out how to plannish. An area I can't reach.

Ok well it's starting to break 43 around here so I'm looking to get back after it. Went out last weekend and the damn thing wouldn't fire. Primed as usual, fire then die. Break open the fuel line and jump the solenoid, jup got gas. Take the carb off, crack it open, what looks like quarter inch of mud in the float area. Luckily for me I have a kit on hand but now cleaner. Hop over to Universal Auto, in out in less than two minutes. $5 more than AAP half block up the street but I'm in and out in two minutes, I could never do that at AAP. Get home, soak it, scrub it, rinse, assemble, reinstall. Fired up no problema. Runs better than the last I drove it.

Found one problem, choke pull off **** the bed so that needs replaced but for now it stays disconnected.

So I dug out the replacement tranny for rebuild this summer. And started looking at the quarter panel I never got to finish last year. Sigh here we go again. Lined out my inner rust repairs I'm going to tackle before I set to reattaching the QP.

Amongst all this for some reason my quarter extension catches my eye. Oh yeah that thing was bashed up and broken when I took it off, so I get to thinkin about tuning up some shaping skills. I've never attempted something this curvy before and I know it's going to take two pieces for me to make. I still haven't decided if I'll use it if it comes out ok or not. But I wanna try and see if i can learn something. I cleaned up the bench a bit and started last night. SOOOOOO here we go.

Tried to straighten it out but it's toast.

Made a flexible shape pattern from packing tape, two layers crossed.
