#2087. Exactly what I was looking for!! Thanks, big guy. Excellent detective work :-D

You don't really want to put a 2bbl on a 440, do you?

Yes. Doesn't bother me a bit.
I don't need secondaries kicking in on that freighter.
And damn it, there's no dicking with the carb forever and a day with a 2bbl.
Idle and perfectly smooth acceleration are my top priorities.

Yep, that'll be good for Stan.

Besides......Stan never opens the secondaries or exceeds 30 mph with the TQ. :poke:

i refer to them as thermobogs. when set up for racing they were a good carb though. going back to a 2 barrel makes no sense at all on a big block. dont give up. most guys tend to overcarb, thinking bigger is better. but going too small is just as bad unless you are thinking fuel economy. your big block needs a 700 to 750 cfm carb in my opinion.

Do they offer an 850cfm? Or would that be over kill for a fairly stock 440? The thermoquads were 850 wernt they?

The 750 CFM is more than you'll ever need if you're WOT a lot. If you're just cruising most of the time the 600 CFM would be adequate on a stock motor. Anything bigger than a 750 is big time overkill for a stock motor in 4000 lb car.

The real deal would be to find a 2 bbl intake from an RV.
True. Been keeping my eye open for a long time. They are all gone. I found one a couple of years ago but somebody beat me to it. He was doing a correct resto on a truck.

I only need the 440 for torque. Have zero interest in 0-60 times in a NYB that does less than a thousand miles per year. A 2 bbl provides excellent torque from idle to 2,000 RPM range where all of my driving is done. Especially with the 2.71 rear.

Get me to Dairy Queen 5 miles away on Saturday nights thank you very much...

See why the 2bbl makes more sense in my case?

I have probably rebuilt 10 Thermoquads, and of those, 2 of them drove me nuts trying to get them to run right. I gave up on those two and just used one of the other ones to get my 73 Imperial to run right. I wish I knew what was wrong with those two TQs. On the other hand I have rebuilt probably in the neighborhood of 20 carter four bbl non-TQ carbs and was able to get every one of them running very well, and have had experience with 2 Edlebrocks that ran perfect right out of the box, although they were pretty pricey. If it were me, I would go with a non-TQ Carter 4 bbl and matching intake for best performance. The smaller primary bores in a 4 bbl (I would go with the 600CFM version of the Eddy in your case) give better launch torque than the bigger bore 2 bbls because the smaller primaries on the 4 bbls yield higher velocities of the air/fuel charge into the cylinders at low speeds, yielding better torque than the 2 bbls. I also have had the 1 1/2 inch 2 bbl Carter BBD carbs on the 383-2 bbl engines, and agree with you that they idled smoothly and accelerated smoothly as well, but my Carter/Eddy 4 bbls were just as good when rebuilt correctly (or new for the Eddys).

I guess I'm lucky...I have TQs on all of my 440s and they run great. I'm one of those guys that had a poor experience with the Edelbrock 1406. I got it to run okay, but there's still times when the truck won't start worth a pinch and I'm still fiddling with it. It's still better than a Holley, though.

I keep on having the idea of converting to fuel injection bouncing around in my head. I would like it for the reliability with todays fuels. I would make sure it was hidden though.

I have a plate from an MP dyno mule that will bolt a 2bbl Holley to a spread bore. It was aon a smallblock Thermoquad intake when I bought the engine.
Personally not having a 4bbl on a 440 would drive me crazy. Then again I'd be at Dairy Queen 5 minutes ahead of you but something tells me that's not important here...lol.

Are you saying it's for sale?

I've had more than half dozen Eddie's on many different projects and never had a bad one. Lucky me.
