Thermoquad to 2bbl conversion.

Is fuel injection even a option for you, or do you want to keep the carb and keep it simple

Is fuel injection even a option for you...

I outgrew Ross' irrational exuberance for all things new, techie, and just pure badass awesoness a long time ago.
And I don't compete with a high school kid who's father built for him a pure checkbook metric "Trans-Am".
Yes. My most favorite car I have owned in all time was my 1969 FJ-40.
Damn, that was the epitome of just the bare essential needs, thank you very much.

Never over 2000 rpmz, 5 milez to the DQ? Schew. Next thing we're gonna find out iz that you're part ah that crowd that got that bumper sticker started ah while back that sayz "PRAY FOR ME I DRIVE HIWAY 19" And here all this time I had you peged for ah hot shoe. Next thing we'll see iz ah bumper sticker that sayz "If you see ah big ole blue 20' slab sided barge comin' at you from either direction on hiway 27 jes pull off in the ditch" LMAO

Having just found this thread, i wonder if the TQ Stan has is suffering from internal vacuum leakage.

Please don't beat on me for this but the Chevy Quadra Jets nicknamed "QuaraJunk"'s were notorious for internal leakage causing lean conditions at idle and just off the idle when hitting the gas.

A favourite repair was to reesat the plugs on the bottom of the carb and then hit the area with JB weld to seal everything.

Accurate float adjustment and they were golden.

I haven't as much experience with the Chryco carbs but could this be the issues he has had?
Aslo a loose carb base will do the same thing..

Run great one minute then crap out the next time you hit the throttle..

I had my TQ restored, not rebuilt, by Scott Smith of Harms Automotive up in Washington state.
He even restores the correct plating on every last teeny part.
He flow tests them.
You get them perfect for your engine the first time right of the box.
I also forgot how "factory perfect" was horribly imperfect in 1976.
I spent countless tear downs to get it 2014 perfect.
2014 lasted about a thousand miles and back to 1976 it went.
I give up. No more.........
Do you know how much my 122k untouched 383-2 makes me grin?
It's a damn electric motor on a rheostat.

I understand your frustration, I have rebuilt many Goldwing carb sets from the early years 1975 to 1981. they can be a real bear to work on since there is 4 seperate carbs that form one unit.

some riders have done conversions onthier older bikes to a single 2 bbl or duall 2bbl to fix the issues on these bikes.

A crazy part of all this is that the Dodge bros can changed cylinder head flows , valve sizes and all sorts of things that will mess you up if you get the wrong year carb on the engine..

I can't believe how many different TQ's there are. Hundreds.
If the barometer goes down, "your exact" TQ won't run right.

One last item to check on your engine which can be over looked that can causing issues.

Check the ignition distributor for frozen or sticky advance weights!
the weights are in the guts of the distributor and if they are not freely moving this will cause drivability issues .

Think of it this way, if the weights are gummed up and moving slowly, your ignition timing can be affected differently at different rpm's

I refuse.
I'm dumping it regardless....

I'll sell it on ebay as near-new and eat my losses.
Ask your mechanic if this TQ is right for you.
