Tire Reccomendation - '78 New Yorker 4DR

Couple of beautiful more doors you have there! Love the shop, those garages go on forever, like a garage condo! I am with Rip on this one, as mentioned in a much earlier thread on tires, IMHO, cars from the 60's and 70's look really good with the narrow whitewalls, the fat white walls seem to lean more to the 50's look, but that is a personal preference. To Rsbolin, with such low miles on the car, why the gas tank replacement? Did it suffer a catastrophic injury at some point? CamShaft

Hello, camshaft. It was a choice I made. That car sat idle since December 2015. I do not know whether the tank was full or fuel or not, but when I spoke with a carb shop that is going to be adjusting the rebuilt carb and asked if they could drop and clean the tank, they recommended replacing the tank. Said it would save time and money to do so. Some may think that it is over reaction, but this will be my daily driver that I need sooner rather than later.

I have been using Hercules Ironman (a division of Cooper Tires) for several years now on a variety of cars.
Most resent was 235/75/15 RB-12 NWS. Fit nice on a Chrysler 15X7'' wheel. Cost is $102 each. I just bought 2 a month ago.

Ha Ha! That is my son's '70 Muskrat fastback. It is also parked in our Garage Mahal (The Garage Mahal - Progress Continues. . .). It has a 460 big block with a nasty cam and a full roll cage in it. I'm trying to get him away from the dark side. . .
I’m on my third set of rims. The last two sets I know were 6 inch rims because I ordered them. The first set of rims were the original rally wheels.
The tires that came on the car were brand new Nexen AH5 235/75R15’s
I have used the tires on all three sets of rims. But according to this thread and several sizing charts 225’s should be the widest tire used on my 6 inch rims.
I noticed you recommended the NEXEN 235’s. My question is what size are your rims?
My rims should be 6.5" yours should be 6" I would not sweat it. The 235 will be just fine on your car and look great.
The 235 revs per mile are 723. Your car could have been 704 RPM for the LR78x15 or 719 for the J78x15.

I do plan to go with the Nexen AH5 235/75R15. I have considered going with Vogue, but I cannot justify do that. As soon as I get the car back from the Carb Shop I will get the tires.

Thank you to everyone that posted a response. I ordered the NEXEN AH5 109S, 235/75R15 tires a few days ago.
I was tempted by Vogue tires, but considering I could purchase two full sets of Nexen's for the price of one set of Vogue, I decided not do that. I also looked at BF Goodrich Classic White Wall tires, but again, the price was astronomical. I could not justify that spend.
I hope I will be happy with the Nexen tires. As I work through getting this New Yorker set up as my daily driver the tire road noise and ride comfort is important to address.

I currently run 5 sets of the 235/75r15 Nexen. No fails or belt slip.
93 Dakota, 3800 pounder. 60k and climbing. 30 psi on front, 50 psi on rear with full (rare) load.
93 Roadmaster wagon. 50k and climbing. 30 psi on 4.
97 Dodge conversion van 3/4 ton. 40/50 psi front/rear split. 50k and done.
72 new Yorker. 28 psi on 4. Fresh at 20k.
78 Mercury grand. 55k and climbing. 30 psi on 4.
They go on my 5k per axle trailers at 60 psi cold for 60 mph use when they come off the cars. No fails there either. Much better success than trailer tires, they run cool as a cucumber compared to trailer radials.
The key with Nexen has been plenty of rotation. More so than the other brand tires I have had over 5 decades.
Being a 50-psi tire, the Nexen does need to be inflation adjusted according to axle weight. Not just the door sticker. Inflation charts are readily available on the net.
I like the Tiger Paw better on the sedans, but they go away faster.

i have Vogue 235 75 15s on my Salon. i wouldnt recommend them because mine began turning brown within a couple of months - probably due to a release agent in the molds.
they will clean up but over time they start to look dirty again
