Unofficial ACN Carlisle thread

A one time meeting is unlikely. Everyone is doing too much, besides Bob, you were there like 8 hours total

Met some friends in Gettysburg and toured the battlefield. On Sunday toured the Eisenhower National Historic Site and South Mountain.

I was at Carlisle about 14 hours total Friday/Saturday and saw everything I wanted to see.

One day I have to go and visit that site, Gettysburg that is. I bet you can actually "feel" the history there. In many ways Valley Forge is much the same way....ooozing with American history.

I go to several reenactments every year and they have the reenactors march by the spectators in parade fashion. They have the Federal troops march by and there is lighthearted boo's & cheers (all in good humor) when they march by and when the Confederate troops march by there is vigorous cheering every time. Of course I'm very impressed with the cannon fire...blanks but very loud and authentic sounding with a lot of smoke, wheels hopping off the ground and recoil! Rebel yells......just great!

Stan, I actually live 10 minutes from John Wilkes Booth boyhood home in Harford County, Maryland. I've been to quite a few places that he was at during his escape to the South. There is all kind of tours retracing that route.

The thing about Gettysburg is to look out on the battlefields and realize how many thousands of young men died there. There were almost as many American soldiers killed at Gettysburg as there were killed in the entire Vietnam war.

Yeah, it is hallowed ground indeed, and also serves as a turning point in the history of the United States. I'll get there one of these days.
