Trains going down Washington Street in downtown Syracuse, NY. Trains ran through the streets until 1936.

The funeral train carrying Lincoln passed through here in 1861.

The Erie Canal went right through downtown Syracuse too.

Most of the buildings seen here are still standing, although the canal was filled in and became Erie Blvd.

Up to a few years ago, the area was a paved street. Then they closed it off, made a park with a waterfall. They keep this flooded during the winter to ice skate on.

The village just down the hill from me. Marcellus, NY

Except for the dirt roads, it's not that much different these days.

This place burnt down and was replaced. Still going today... My oldest tended bar in there for a while.

Alvord House today... This one's not burning.

Go down the hill from me the other direction and you end up in the village of Camillus, NY

:.jpg

You can't say anything about Camillus without mentioning Camillus Cutlery. Ever own a boy scout knife? It came from here.

The white building burnt a while ago. The factory had closed after a nasty union strike a few years before. Some Chinese company owns the rights to the name now.

Recent picture. They must have taken this early in the morning before the panhandlers reported for work.

The overpass is Rt 81.

Syracuse, NY 1920. Yates Hotel. 250 rooms, 6 stories, took up a whole city block. Claimed to be the "most elegant hotel outside Manhattan" . Demolished in 1971 and the adjacent bank had plans to build on the site that fell through. Now a parking lot. Note the now rare Model T Town Cars used as taxis at the curb.

The Yates Hotel Opened this Month in 1892

Note Church spire is still standing. For those interested, this is really a beautiful church. Episcopal Church | St. Paul's Syracuse | Syracuse
