one of the scarier jobs i've had to do. both sides back together now and i'm still here!

I guess this is appropriate for Taillight Tuesday . . .
I've had a tail light issue since I purchased my Newport where the left one is much dimmer than the right.
I'd replaced the bulbs so I figured I had a ground issue. I finally got around to looking at this, and testing showed that the wiring and grounds were all good. Hmmm - then I felt around inside the taillights through the bulb hole - the left one was pretty filthy and gritty, and the right one was clean.
Once I got them apart I could see that the left taillight lens didn't seal completely in the housing, and over the past 53 years dirt, crud, and moisture had gotten in. The silver reflective surface was dull and dirty, and there was some surface corrosion on the inside of the housing as well. The right taillight was nice and clean, with a good coat of silver paint. Looks like I found the problem!
I sanded down the inside surface of the left housing and spray painted on a fresh coat of silver. And, so the tail lights matched, I went ahead and gave the right housing a fresh coat of paint as well. It worked a treat - both lights are nice and bright now!

side cover on an '01 cummins. had every intention of pulling the injector pump, but the sprocket wont pop. loaded it for all it was worth with a snap-on gear puller, nothing. snuck the cover out backwards between the body and the bell housing.
f'ing ***** of a thing.

Ouch, I can't say that I've ever had the sprocket on a VP44 hang up like that. Did you ever get it to release?

no. was to the point where i was afraid to snap the puller attaching bolts rated at 10.9. tried knocking the puller with hammer, NG. something bad was going to happen and i wasn't going to risk it. pulled the bolts out of the left side engine mount to gain some additional clearance between the cab and the bell to allow installation.

Dang that’s crazy, what’s the history on the truck? Hopefully someone wasn’t dumb enough to put a couple ugga-duggas on it for good measure. Then again, I’ve seen dumber things.

agree, but from reading online it's not unheard of. 250k+, don't know that it's been apart. adult owned. torque spec. on the nut is 125 ft/lbs. didn't feel like it took 125 to pop it loose. think the gear seated itself an extra hundred thousandth or so over the years. ran it last night. hits on six. final assembly today.

A job for mathcad.I wish I was doing working on something, instead I’m doing mathI'm sizing a new system for work, and I didn't like the numbers the model spit out. Gotta check them by hand.

Restored my door panels a few years ago. Used nearly all the original trim along with some fiber board to replace the rotted cardboard backing. The material was marine grade vinyl from Joann's Fabric store. I did have to buy a sewing machine, that home ec class from 7th grade finally paid off. The carpet came from ebay. The speaker came from ebay, cut out the wood
mount from a piece of walnut from menards with a jigsaw and smoothed out with a belt sander. The top of the panel is the original steel section. I sandblasted it and painted it with primer and black paint. The armrest bases came from Vans Auto.
