What did you do to your C-body today....

Swapped 2bbl to 4bbl test drive, bosses car.

Finished up the rattle can rebuild of the 383/727 going into my '66 Fury barn find. It came with the car, 69 date code on the side. Dunno if it was a magnum, or just a 4 barrel engine. It was allegedly a good runner, but man it was filthy. I stripped all the mid 70's front dress off of it, then took it down to the short block for a close inspection and cleaning. The timing set was junk, really sloppy and still had the nylon gear. I swapped in a double roller set, then replaced every seal and gasket plus all the freeze plugs. I added most of the front dress stuff from 440 source. I probably would have painted it turqoise, except I couldn't find it here anywhere...so hemi orange it was. When I cleaned it initially the only paint I could find on the block was orange anyways.

I had to work early today, but was feeling frisky enough to drop this into it's new home before it got dark.

Success, and tucked into the garage again. I didn't like having it outside...

Tomorrow more details, linkages, etc. Try to see how the headers fit. I went with some "B"/ "E" body Summit headers. Gonna be tight, but I think they're going to be OK. Kinda sucky the collectors end up inboard of the torsion bars.

I'm just happy to have this milestone behind me before our weather turns to crap and the car is sitting outside in the snow. We've had snow by mid October before, not that uncommon...so I was feeling a little antsy to get to this point.

Beer time!

Awesome work and the motor and tranny look great!!

I see your fridge with rockauto magnets on it.....:D Yeah we have had a few cold nights over west of you, been -8*C at my place here in PG, expecting snow by Halloween. Just got my fireplace installed in the new shop and passed inspection so will actually have some heat this winter. :)

Yesterday was the last "Cars and Coffee cruise. It was 36 degrees when I left the house and very foggy. The turnout wasn't the best... This is a small cruise that just started last month and is just getting off the ground, so there haven't been a lot of cars, but it's been growing. The weather kept all but us die hards away yesterday.

Yep, all Mustangs (the folks putting on the cruise are big in the local Mustang club), except for my 300, but a '33 Plymouth street rod showed up just after I shot this pic.

The car is gonna get covered and start its winter nap real soon.

what is the story on the pontiac ?

what is the story on the pontiac ?

Crashed into a tree or pole in January 1967 by the original owner. I dunno if he had thoughts of fixing it himself, but he did park it in his garage and kept it there...until he died in 2013. It almost ended up at the local "pick n pull", but instead was rescued by a guy that deals with old junk like this. I bought it in 2014.

The front end damage was kinda scary looking, I had my fingers crossed it was all sheet metal damage...and mostly that is the case. The car is super solid, no floor rust, The paint that's on it is original, trunk looks brand new. It does have some rust in front of the rear tires, which is common on these cars I guess. Overall a time capsule I'm hoping to bring back to dead stock

It's a 1957 Pontiac Pathfinder 2 door sedan. Zero options. 261 cid 6 cylinder, three on the tree. It's a Canadian Pontiac, and more closely resembles the '57 Chevy...probably because it was built alongside the 57 Chevy's on the same assembly line back in the day. Mechanically it is 100% 57 chevy, which makes getting parts for it pretty easy. The stuff specific to Canadian Pontiac can be a bear to find though.

I kinda back burnered it once I found the Fury...lol. I have all the sheet metal and front bumper etc twice over. Maybe once the Fury is a driver I'll turn my attention back toward the Pontiac.

I grabbed the dash, a carpeted seat back off a bucket seat, and the console wiring off the parts car. I'm done with it other than maybe a taillight lens. It's a shame I'm leaving parts on the car, window trim mostly, but I have multiple sets I can't give away. Then it's off to a derby. Yep, it's gonna get crushed in the end either way. Rotted stub and floors, fenders hood trunk quarters, you name it, the car has been dead for decades. At least a lot of useful stuff got taken off it and is on a car that uses it. I've recycled what I could, and then some. Another car comes to the end of it's cycle.

One dies so others may live. As Spock would say " the needs of the many, out way the needs of the few, or the one"

I have been working on my Polara. I had a set of these wheelcovers I thought I would see how they would look on it.
Also lucked out at a swap meet last weekend and got this air breather for $20.

Looks like I won’t be cruising anytime soon. Was hoping to get at least one more outing in but we’ve had nothing but bad weather and now this
Time to break out the Scotch.

Putting the 300 to bed for the winter (unfortunately), got a pesky oil leak to fix, windlace to install, bumpers and taillight bezels to get re-chromed and a few other projects. Weather forecast isn't looking good, so might as well get working on it, so on the dollies she goes.....

Beautiful car! Over the years these bodies have grown on me. Today I think the '62 is the best looking of the three years between '60-'62.

I got towed!!!

Took my Newport to Awana last night at my Church. Afterwards, my wife said we needed chips for the BLTs she was making, so I went to the store before going home. On the way to Raleys I noticed my lights flickered every time I put on my brakes. Never seen that before, been 16 years! They also flickered when I hit the turn signal. Hmmm....

Went into the store, bought some chips and sodas, went back to the car an noticed a problem immediately: my interior lights did not come on. Uh oh! Sure enough, no turning of the starter; I had no electricity at all! A friend happened to be there; tried to jump it. Nothing. Called AAA.

Don't know what the problem is; I looked at all the usual suspects. Doing a brake job on a church member's pickup this afternoon. Hoping to have time after to check the Newport.

In the meantime, driving the Gremlin!

You can see the potato chips in the back seat!
Problem solved!!! Today I finally had the time to look at my car since this happened two Tuesdays ago. (day off.) It did turn out it be a very simple thing; in fact it's a second-time offender. The wire in the picture has a bad connector on it that I need to replace. The tape I pout on it a few years back failed and it separated again. No power! I plugged it back together and viola! Instant lights in the interior. Had to put my charger on the battery though as it was drained; wire must have been loose for some time, which is probably why my lights were flashing.

Also found the cause of my PS leak: looks like both the pressure and return hoses on my pump are bad. Since the car was parked backwards in my garage I was able to see the amount of PS fluid that had drained. Whoa! Hitting Rockauto next!

Sent a replacement dash and cluster to “Instrument Specialist” in Rhode Island for a full restoration. They tell me a six month turnaround time, which I’m good with because there’s many other things that need attention on the car. If you’re familiar with these guys they are the same that restore all of the dashes and clusters for “graveyard cars”..

They did one for my Cuda, looked real purty when it came back but I sold the car before getting it back together to try it.
