What did you do to your C-body today....

On Sunday I rebuilt the Thermoquad for TB Imperial. It needed the rebuild, lots of misadjustments (Holley/Chevy hands on it) dirty inside. All adjusted and looking good.

I doubt you will notice much of a ride difference. When I had my 70 Sport Fury I rebuilt my own rear leafs from a couple different sets, picked thicker and heavier individual leafs and added an extra leaf while I was at it...so basically a 6 leaf HD set-up. Car went from a bit slushy in the back to nice and firm but still rode nice, and didn't sag much when I loaded up the trunk.

But you will probably end up with the back of the car sitting a tad higher...think I gained 1.5" but it did settle a little over time to abut 1" higher then when I started.

Appreciate that, I bought the springs a couple years ago and never thought to do a double look until I yanked everything out over the weekend and noticed that I had an extra leaf in the new set. I feel better now, I was worried I’d have that old high school rake they we used to do to our Camaros and such back in the day.

The extra leaf will help with cornering, ride should be fine. Any new spring will feel stiffer then your old spring, 5 or 6. You can have a spring shop flatten the arch if you think it is too much. Take old set of springs for comparison.

After hearing what you guys had to say, I think I’ll be fine, when I pulled the old set off, I noticed that someone in the past had put a helper spring on it, so technically it did have six. Also had added a set of air shocks to level her out when loaded with the Family and stuff. I expected it to sit a bit high after I get everything put back together, knowing it’ll settle after some time of sitting and driving. Thanks again for the info.

The thing with the TQ's is the set-up...I will spend 2 hours making sure every adjustment is perfectly within spec...makes for a much smoother and reliable carb, and makes the on motor adjustment that much easier as well.

Got all my tidbits back from my crack dealer, I mean powder coater this morning, put a few coats of paint on the leaf springs, now I’ve got everything needed to put the axle back under the car..

Went for a walk in the woods, picking some nuts and bolt. Found some roached washer bottles. They came home, working on an idea.

Took Shamu out with the fiancé probably for the last time this year for a B&B getaway. 8^)

Met up with Wyatt today and drove down to the Morris Lions Club car show.
The annual show is held at the Grundy county speedway, about a 70 mile ride, but it's the last big show in the area.
840 cars came out for the show. Weather was great.

Home again home again Jiggitty jig. The freshly rebuilt axle is back under the pig. lol.
After many weeks of parts, powder coating and tested patients, the axle is back under Ginger with all fresh components. New leaf Springs and bushings from springs and things, stainless steel brake lines from in-line tubing and axle internals from Dr. Diff..
I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the past couple, weekends lying on my back on a big sheet of cardboard under the car, even my Yorkie Mimi enjoys being under the car. it’s very relaxing and therapeutic for me. Still anStill a couple things left to do, While installing the brake hardware, I broke a spring and had to order a new hardware kit. Still need to install the rear brake line and attach it to the axle then bleed the brakes. And I’m happy with the results. Check that off the winter project list, onto the next.

It's a very satisfying feeling when you begin to see everything you've worked on going back together, especially with the time you have taken to detail the underside of your New Yorker as you have, when almost nobody else will ever see it.
Nice job on everything.

It does. The hearse won an award for one of the spectators favorites. I didn't even see the ride until he was exiting the show field at the end of the day.

It certainly is, I wish I had the funds and the resources .ie a full sized garage to do it the way I really wanted to do it, but I enjoy tinkering, and it keeps me out of trouble. Lol.
