What did you name your car?

I tried finding a related thread but could not seem to find one, but maybe I didn’t look hard enough. Anyways, curious question, what did you all name your cars if you did?

Since now having owned 3 cars, I’ve named my 2 daily drivers

Buckie a 1997 Olds LSS (may it rest in peace )

Clunkie a 1996 Olds Eighty Eight Royal

Now I named the cars like this because Buckie…. Bucked and Clunkie always had a clunk in the suspension. Now even though I bought the Chrysler at 16, 4 years on I still have yet to name it, Until now.

So please tell me if yall think the name is dumb but I’m getting the vibe that she’s a “Candy”. She’s rough around the edges and not the shining star she used to be, however she still finds ways to be cruel and drain my wallet I think it’s fitting ‍

if I’m wrong or if it’s dumb

tell me, but this car does make me think of that kind of a woman

I've named a few.....have two red trucks (I hate red but not gonna pass up a good deal that run well) and named the 97 2500 diesel Red 1 and the and the 96 Dakota Red 2. Also have a 95 Dakota that's called The Beater because that's all I've done to it since 98 when dad left it to me. Used to have a 79 D300 Adventurer SE Club cab that was pretty much used up when I got it. It was named Edna.

If it comes naturally, I run with it. I tried to force a name onto my convertible and it just doesn't work so I ditched the idea.

Cars don't have to be named, they will name themselves in time.

I had a Sport Fury GT that got the name "Bob" after an engine builder that had worked on the car years before. A friend started that. That was back in the 70's.

I haven't named one since, but my 300L is starting to get referred to as "Miss November" since the 300 club calendar came out.

Clunkie and Buckie named themselves due to their… quirks. It finally hit me that idk I think this name works. It’s a play on sweet because in all actuality my example is well far from it I’ve you’ve followed my cars’ journey lol

I named a couple of vehicles back in the 1990s. Since then, No. To me, they are machines that I like. They have no sex and no name.

My former '73 NYB became known as "Nanner" because it was a big banana boat, proudly showcasing its flamboyant coat of DY2 wherever it went. The car was also deemed to be gay (said the ex wife).

The '71 doesn't have a name yet, other than "the GA4".

Haha chose the car over the wife huh. I’m sorry she felt that way. My dad wouldn’t let me buy a thunderbird bc he deemed them gay. I still want a 66 flair bird

Tux came about from TX9 paint code and the black/white theme of the colour combo, I use the name but it's not my favourite. I think it took hold because I had two black Imperials, one was triple black and it got the named TB.

One time I rented a Sebring convertible. I really liked the car and the way it handled with the upgrade Michelin TRX suspension. BUT, as to "gender", everybody I saw driving one in the metro area had gray hair and or curlers in their gray hair! NO masculinity in the customer demographic, apparently! YIKES! Just my observations, no more, no less.

Back in the 1960s, guys DID own convertibles. Many drove around in the summer with the tops down and their shirts off, getting a tan. NOT any more! Got to have lifted pickups with monster mudder wheels, apparently.

As to "names", I usually stayed with the brand or model name. Yes, I do talk to my cars just as one talks to their pets. I feel that builds a relationship and bond. End result is the car takes care of me like I take care of it. By the same token, I don't abuse it or rag on it, outside of its capabilities. We are a TEAM.

There are a few times I've ventured outside of the brand or model names as what I address the vehicle as. I inherited a '70 Skylark Custom 2dr ht from a great aunt. It became "Skylar". Which, to me, is a classy female name.

Although I was in kindergarten at the time, I understand it was popular to name one's car, which seemed to be a "guy thing" back then. Sometimes, getting the name painted on the car somewhere?

IF one waxes, polishes, washes, and otherwise "rubs" on the paint, or laying under the car doing an oil change or lube job . . . how could you NOT build a relationship with the vehicle? Resulting in a "pet name" for it?

ALL vehicles have a "character" to them. Some more soft that others. Some like to test their cornering capabilities. Some are eager to "eat road" as others tolerate it, liking their roads straighter and flatter. As some are muscular enough to only want their roads 1/4 mile at a time.

Just some thoughts and orientations,

We call my wifes crimson red hyundai, Ruby which she picked out and of course the 04 Rumble Bee is called.....Rumble. Have not thought of one for my 68 300. Maybe Damn it, because she aint on the road yet or 'bout time 'when she is. If she does real good Ill name her after my favorite aunt. 'Golda'. My tractors a dude, no name!
