Maybe instead of paint, wet them to form a bunch of flash rust then coat them with rust converter. This should give you a dark, heat proof and rust proof finish.

I like the idea but is it heat proofMaybe instead of paint, wet them to form a bunch of flash rust then coat them with rust converter. This should give you a dark, heat proof and rust proof finish.
Don't know, someone with a rusty manifold should run a test. There are however two types of converters, one uses tannic acid and an organic polymer which is not heat resistant, the other user phosphoric acid which produces ferric phosphate which should be heat resistant. Again, experiment.I like the idea but is it heat proof
Hey it's your car, your vote is not only last, it's final!I like the idea of cast iron grey, I think it is far less likely to end up with a "splotchy" effect like the rust converter which can be inconsistent.
So I did some more work today, I started adding some accessories to the engine, some of them new parts like the clutch fan, engine mounts and distributor. I also stripped the dual snorkel air cleaner and etch primed it, look for the wrinkle finish paint tomorrow! AS for the gas tank, that has been fitted, still playing with it a bit but it is basically done too. I cant find my gas tank grommet so I ordered two more today, one as a spare. The carb kit arrived today and I will be doing that this week too. Hope fully I will have the springs and rear axle in by the end of the week too. stay tuned!

Lol, can't slow down I got a deadline! More stuff done today, and ...lots more to be oversprayedSlow down! Your progress is making me dizzy! (And jealous)
BTW, I don't give a flip what the factory did, I could never over spray engine components, especially on purpose. That fuel pump will most defiantly be installed after the block is painted.

I haven't done the carb yet but I just had to set it up with the aircleaner for the photos. couldn't help myself.

VHT exhaust paint Aluminum in color, they didn't have cast iron grey so that's my compromise, the can claims up to 2000 degrees farenheit.Oh man ! Beautiful ! And look at those HP exhaust manifolds! What kinda paint did you hit them with ?
Damn, I didn't even know the stuff existed, oh well next time I will seriously look at this stuff.Another great product for keeping that natural look on exhausts, Calyx Manifold Dressing.
I remember a friend years back using it on his '71 Corvette mate.
