Wollfen's 1971 Sport Fury GT !

Next up i started taking the engine down and found a pristine internals, I mean this engine is good! Best I have ever seen, but there is the bent pushrod and lifter sitting loose, so I checked that carefully. Nothing to be seen that would do the damage to the pushrod, so it might be a sticky valve. I checked the lifter face for wear with a straight line and it is perfect. No wear on the face at all. After looking at the rest of the lifters i found the same thing. Is this thing rebuilt?
So I decided to call the previous owner and have a chin wag with him. Turns out yes he rebuilt the heads and replaced the oil pump, I commented on the pristine condition of the rest of the internals and he told me no, nothing else was touched, But he did say that he would change the oil every 2000 miles. Now that's preservation, It gave me the idea that maybe the crank i

s as good and maybe the bore will be good too.

So I finally got the bottom end apart this afternoon and pulled the crank, it is shiny and pristine like the rest and everything is standard size too. I'm going to give it a linish and put it back in Also the bore has no lip to speak of and I will hone that and see how it looks. If that comes up looking great too, then I will put the original pistons back in. Amazing this engine has 98K miles on it! Look at that bore, no lip after the carbon is removed, very nice.

That is one very clean engine. What kind of earl did Earl use in it ?

New gas tank arrived yesterday with the new sender unit too, $300 for all of it, ouch, but worth it.

Today I did a bunch of stuff starting with the underside of the car, sprayed the body deadener and got the heavy texture I wanted, it is still shiny, and very wet, sticky stuff , crap goes everywhere including my hair! I used almost a gallon to do the rear third of the car.

Lastly I got stuck into the engine block, honed it out and was satisfied with the result so I cleaned it out and got the assembly parts ready. Knocked out all the welsh plugs and replaced them. Also got the crank back in then the pistons and timing gear too. Put the oil pump pickup in.

Tomorrow I should have the sump pan back on and timing cover in place. I have to check one head for a sticky valve and make sure they are good to go after a cleaning, but at this rate I could have it all back together by the end of the week. I am also waiting for a new set of pushrods to arrive too.

Don't ever let me get away with saying you airplane guys can't survive on flat rate... You sir are kicking ***. I am looking forward to seeing (at least in pictures) this one on the road again as much as I am Critter's beauty. For a car I didn't even know existed a year ago... I have become a big fan.
