Wyatt convinced me to destroy my 71...

Besides being another inspiration as wyatt mentioned, I stole your dynamax recommendation for the rear springs.
Bought em already, but still need to put em on.
 
As much as people say “keep the car original…it’s only original once” which I have said too, after all things being considered, I’ve decided it’s time to do the bodywork on this car and give it a fresh coat of paint.
There are just too many dings for me to live with, after all that’s been done to under the hood. After it’s repainted in GY5, but before the old paint is removed, pictures and measurements of the pin stripes will be taken, so somebody I can find here locally, can duplicate the pinstripes to match what came off the line in Detroit.

I already have a shipping tube full of the same body moldings with clips, to use if they are in better condition than the originals once compared, choosing the best out of the bunch. A new windshield is on the list too, to replace the old one which has a small chip in the glass right in direct line with the view when driving.

As for doing the bodywork, what do you guys think…. remove the key lock on the front left fender for the Day 2 alarm system, or put the old alarm horn back on and rewire it to newer technology? Opinions good or bad, I can live with.

But the next project on the short list will be to drop the rear end, and replace the open gear with the 3.23 sure grip, new springs, shocks and bearings.

IMO if you looking to return to OE! If the security system is Day 2 install, I say remove it and carryon..

Beautiful car by the way.. I’ve followed your thread and your inaugural trip to Carlise.. it was inspiring..

I hope you take the lock cylinder off the front fender when you do the body work/repaint - it just screams at me when I see it in any of your photos of that otherwise beautiful car...........................
 
Tim, hear are some thoughts on your repaint. Leave the old alarm system off. They are problematic and lack the modern technology of GPS tracking which you want. The added bump there for me is unsightly, JMO. Dropping in a couple of tracking chips will give you an advantage also. Modern tech. will assist you should theft occur and aid law enforcement. You get a discount on your insurance. I learned that modern paints are great to maintain and have a gloss that can't be beat. Tim also plan on replacing or restoring your stainless steel trim. The same goes for grills, Tail light assemb. If you can see it, remove it. Anytime PM me if you have questions or need a little info.

I myself have always disliked seeing a car with a key lock marring the front fender. I would propose not replacing it. Look forward to seeing your postings on the paint project.
 
Seeing the big horn under the the hood when I got this car kinda turned me off too, but seeing that it's is almost as old as the car itself, I thought it might be kind of cool to keep it on. OK...it doesn't belong there so it's getting put back in the box.
Maybe save it for an M Body...

I think that crowd doesn't buy anything that isn't shiney.

Tim: A total re-paint is gonna be a daunting task. When I saw yer car up close, I didn't think the paint was a big problem. Don't know if you could get away with it, but would it be possible / desirable to only repair and re-paint the problem areas?

Also, instead of the 3.23 gear, you might consider a 2.91. I have 3.23s in both of my '66 300s, and although they run fine, when I get out on the road at speed, the engine gets pretty busy; sometimes I think there is another up-shift waiting to occur. I think a 2.91 might moderate this condition a little. Thanks to @detmatt, I have a SG 2.91 waiting in the wings for my convertible. . .
 
FWIW.
That 2:91 gear was a popular choice in a B body along with a big block. Guys that worked with dad reported easily getting low 20s mpg hwy in their Chargers and Satellites with a 383 2bbl yet still a good runner around town. They found they ran better than a 318 and better fuel mpg for their runs up to the cabin on weekends.
 
@sixpkrt, my two cents:

(i) CH23U1C152920 is a rare car. As such, she deserves the best. I would only repaint her if the job were done perfectly -- like @saforwardlook's body & paint guy does for his own cars, and like Pistol Pete did for PH23T0D121525 (the EA4 Sport Fury GT acquired earlier this year by @Dga26).

(ii) regarding the alarm, I agree with th others that the fender contraption mars the otherwise perfect lines of the car. If this were my car, I would keep the old parts to accompany the car if you ever let it go, and I would thoroughly document how the setup looked like -- but I would remove the extraneous parts and fix the fender.
