Hellcat Totaled after 18 Miles

Carsten is right there, it's all about the expierience. Someone who drives 55mph every day all day will barely be able to handle such speed even temporary (no matter what car). Just as a comparison where someone is used to drive 160mph most of the time knows way better how to handle a car at those speeds (that's why the excessive licensing in Germany), and I mean HANDLE A CAR, not just going straight. To me, 55mph is crazy slow on some roads here where you could safety go 160 but if people aren't mature enough or don't have the mental capability to do that, you gotta take that option from them. I'm used to drive at least 100mph all the time before moving to the US, I took a lot for me to adjust my driving to be so slow. Maybe the licensing here is simply not strict enough, getting my license here sure was a joke.

Comparing it to gun "laws", well, yes. And I believe cars are a way more deadly weapon than guns (and I own one myself). Imagine everyone shooting guns in the street every day all day, wouldn't you want them to know what they are doing or underestimating the responsibility that comes with it? I don't like a lot of regulations either and think the Speedlimits are redicolous, but apperantly it's needed here and that's fine. I can just speak for myself and by looking at my son (he's autistic), I love him but with his mindset and maturity level, in my opinion, he should never be allowed to drive a car, let alone have a gun...

Well i don't know.
I've seen some pretty amazing driving by young ladies in clapped out Ford Escorts on I-75.

Just getting a clapped out Ford Escort onto I-75, and living to tell about, is in itself pretty amazing.

Where does one go to see this 55mph driving being spoken of? Maybe on an I town Boulevard, but certainly not any highways I travel in New England.

Distracted driving should be a felony.
It is, Once you have killed someone... not only do they not write the tickets here, I see city police doing this ALL THE TIME:BangHead:. OPD has some good officers, but I don't understand the politics that have caused this department to ignore the traffic to the point of free for all and so many of the times I personally observe an officer setting the bad example (passing on the shoulder of an on ramp, no lights on).

Thank you for the personal touch in your post. The gun law thing brings up too much debate around this country. I personally grew up with them, got my first rifle(22) before I could hold it up, and can't stand to be around most "sportsmen" due to their lack of respect and safety.

As to drivers... I believe that like many things, it's mostly a matter of "give a damn". Those that do will learn and improve, those that don't... are beyond hope. Ask the pro's in here just how many experienced mechanics they have come across who never decided they needed to learn to drive a manual transmission. As a lead in the shop, I could work with anything except "don't give a damn". Those ones didn't deserve to work a broom and should be riding the bus.

It should be a felony when they get caught using a phone while they are driving. Not after they already killed someone!

I have been saying for years now that with the technology in video games and feed back it would not be hard to make a reasonably priced simulator and with programing a young soon to be driver can experience driving all kinds of vehicles in all kind of conditions.
Examples that come to mind
Drive a big truck and see just how hard it is to stop when you jump in front of one and then turn.
Hydroplane or driving in the snow/ice is a definite learning experience on throttle and brake control.
There are more, all of which us old farts have learned from the seat of the pants over time. A simulator class like this would allow young people to experience this without having to move to upstate New York, drive a big truck for a living, figuring out they stayed in the throttle too long and no catastrophic results.

They should make a motion detector in phones (with no possible override) to disable a phone that is moving more than 3 mph. And not that dumb mode they have in phones now that can be turned off.

When they make me count to three after the light turns green they get the horn.

That is silly. If youre the passenger in a moving car? Train?

All I'm saying is there needs to be a serious crack down on people driving and being on their phones.

Doesnt matter! What did you do before a lot of inventions? It doesnt mean you should stop using them or have them regulated because you're( not you personally) an idiot.

Problem is that the idiots out number you by miles and are growing. If it is needed in order to protect me then I am fine with it. Besides, why would it be a problem since I would never in a million years have my phone even on in the car. Are you using yours in a moving car?

I know you disdain regulations but unfortunately they are needed because, in general, adults don't really play well together.

I still give one of my managers a hard time for the day he was texting while riding 2 wheels... he got into trouble and had to toss the phone to save himself. Probably the wrong choice in retrospect.:realcrazy:

Seat belts , air bags, helmets, anti lock brakes, seat belt chimes, wipers on lights on, speed limits, yield to pedestrians, traffic lights, where does it end?
