1966 Fury III - Unfinished Project

I think I'll make a little indentation to house it then. I don't want the base of it above the carpet, it's ugly.
That would make it like the pedal in the 300; then a slot cut in the carpet with the pedal poking through.
That makes it tidier, given that the rubber has all gone bad on the base of mine and I can hide it that way.

Here is what it looks like installed.

Yeah, I think I'll just find the middle ground there.
Beat the old pan back to what I think the shape should look like in the bottom left corner, too.

That is thin and needs to come out.

Continuing to make new sections for the floor.

I start with a flat sheet, vice jaws open just a bit wider than the indent to make, and a steel bar slightly undersized.

Apply liberal amounts of hammer and create a divot, the sides all pucker and fold up.
20230630_161857.jpg

Turn the piece over and on a flat surface, use the corner of a flat panel beating hammer, hitting in toward the crease to flatten the sides out.

Similarly, shape the end where the vanish occurs.

Shape wrinkles and tweak until the correct shape is achieved, using the piece removed as a template; they should neatly stack together if you're doing it right.

Trim to size and weld in.

Put two patches in this evening before running out of time before dinner.

Damn, I need to get a welder, and move a bench to my garage so I can have a vise that's anchored. Between you and '69FuryIIIConvertible, you make it look so easy.
A securely mounted, solid bench vise is an excellent tool to have.

Modern welding machines, particularly computer controlled ones like mine make the task easier, too.

Excessively warm day today.

Managed to put two patches in before having to pick up and come inside to cool off.
Might continue later when the day's cooled off since but we're on heat warning 10am-8pm today.
Wanting to at least try make some progress because the forecast for all next week is rain.

I don't think that's too bad for gasless mig outside in the breeze.

That's a couple more patches in, at least.
Enough for today, I'm exhausted.

Took the time to put the portable canopy up today, and I'm glad I did. Made working outside much easier.

Got this far adding the large central rib in and ran out of mig wire.
I'll buy more tomorrow but the weather forecast doesn't look good.

Phil

It didn't rain. Humid and nasty though.
However, just for a change... More welding!

Coming together now. Stabilized the left side.
20230703_175823.jpg

Need to remake the big rib on the left, and create a new lip for it to mount to the rocker.

Nothing but rain today. A brief break in the weather after work meant I could grind the welds flush.

Smartens it up a touch, at least.

Wow.. not like it is rusted out down there. Even the trade schools would have done a better job.
Enjoy watching the progress and learning a few things..

That's crazy, Phil. It's not like we're salting the roads during rainstorms here. Body drains most likely plugged?
Evidence of it being driven a lot on ungraded road.

I guess a lot of sitting dirt in the rust traps, coupled with the paint being pummeled with gravel.

Cleaned the rest of the footwell up. Better now to see if it's good or not.
20230706_164406.jpg

Started to look at the car, breaking off the spot weld.
20230706_174200.jpg

That's the corner prepped. I'll build that down to the brace and that'll set it well to have the pan put back in.
