1966 Fury III - Unfinished Project

Tonight, work in CAD.

Cardboard Aided Design.

Hot hot hot today so only a little time in the sun.

The swage was too sharp so I softened it out around a metal bar as a former.

Matches the original shape better now, that's satisfactory.

Also beat the worst of the big dent out. That'll just take a real thin spread of filler to fix (not ¾" thick).

Great work!
How do you get the curve of the new panel that you are putting in the quarter panel?

Photographs for reference and that was just bent by a combination of rolling it over that metal fence post, standing on it and bending it over my knee.
The tight curve at the bottom was just standard hammer and dolly work.

Tacked in.

Not too bad on the profile. Needs a bit of massaging but overall I'm ok with it.

Rear piece next, then inner panel to be made up. I have run out of steel to use for it.

Seen one thing- got the lower lip of the bottom of the arch at the wrong angle. I'll slice theough that, bend it flat and redo.

Had a poke about underneath.

Wheel tub is surprisingly good.

Ended up taking more out than I put back in today. But, it's all progress.

Relaxing evening. A day away from the car. Mostly.

I got hijacked by the dog as an impromptu pillow, so all I did tonight was free off the H on the back bumper and turn it round the right way.

That was annoying me. Better now.

Lots of fiddle-faddle with little weird shaped pieces of metal to repair the inner quarter section at the back.

It is, however, in place. Next up, outer section to join to it. Then, the rest of the inner section.

The way that you can eyeball those lines and duplicate them with basic tools is awesome. I hope you were staying hydrated today!
Thankfully these are the Slab Side Years, and the shapes involved are quite simple! I've been working from photos and any remaining coach lines I can find on the car.

Cut out and bashed a piece of metal to shape.

Calibrated eyeball says that looks right. Let's go check.

Good enough, though I need to heat and shrink one part that I warped a bit with the welding.

But, the outer rear quarter is now all metal, which is good.

Lower inner quarter. Need to remove and move the dimple on the left, I made it too far forward.
Edit: No, I made the wrong number of stiffeners. Oh well. All good, better that not having it there or it being made from rust.

Coming along though. That's really made the rear quarter feel solid.

Well, this is just repair on the cheap.

I roughed in the arch tonight but ran out of mig wire.
However, as weebly-wobbly as thepanel currently is, I'm still happy with the profile, compared to how it was.
