1968 Newport 4dr Hardtop restore (NL)

Oh yes, it was a beautiful day in a great setting.
I have to admit to my shame that I was very intrigued by the green Coronet longroof that was for sale
Yeah sure next time we'll talk...

(Pictures are not always loading, sometimes I have to refresh multiple times, do other people have this issue?)
(I also have origin unreachable error when loading forcbodiesonly.com often)

Well it's been way longer than I planned between updates.
I hope I can be more active again as of now...

Still haven't spoken @300L unfortunately
Did you end up buying that coronet longroof?
Had a fully rebuild engine and transmission.

Crazy couple of years.
Mid 2021 we were finally able to buy a house with a big shed and lots of room.
I was still working on the chrysler when it became clear that we could move to the house end of september 2021.
I wanted to be able to drive the Chrysler to the new house, so I've quickly finished a lot of things to get it roadworthy and registered.
It passed inspection/registration with flying colors and I've been driving the Chrysler on nice days since sept 2021 and moved it to it's new home under it's own power.

Not a lot changed to the Chrysler in the past couple of years, except that I've installed an LPG system to reduce driving cost significally.
I've noticed that the high gas prices were limiting me in taking the chrysler everywhere on a nice day.
RON98 fuel is around 8.5-9USD per Gallon over here, and LPG is "only" 3USD per Gallon.
Driving the chrysler is even more fun now. The only downside it that the LPG tank takes a lot of room in the boot.
It's a dual fuel system, so I can switch between Gas and LPG when I want.

I can dedicate a post to how the LPG setup in more detail if people are interested.

We've also used the Chrysler to go camping in the German Eifel/Mosel area :)
Same area as the BBTR event (which unfortunately doesn't include slabsides)

IMG_20240721_200843.jpg

We even got special parking at Phantasialand (theme park) because the Chrysler was too big for the normal spots

The house and shed needed a ton of work, so almost every minute we've had went there for the last couple of years.
The shed was a cow shed, and we've converted it to our car workshop.
In this picture all steel bars, water bowls, equipment was already removed and prepared for concrete pouring.
The concrete floor already there was only 4" thick, so not thick enough for a lift.
We've removed a 10x13ft slab of concrete, dug it out 10" deep and poured reinforced concrete specifically for the lift.

After the floor was poured it was also coated and we've installed an extra wide 6 tonne (metric) lift.
Plenty strong enough for the chrysler and dads Chevy 3100 :p

The shed is fully equipped by now.
Multiple benches, tools/wires/connectors to make wiring harnesses, tire machines, you name it.

Now in 2025 I finally have time again to work on the Chrysler.
I was not really happy with a lot of little things that needed to be finished quick before moving, so I'm going to tackle that.
I'm also redoing/improving a lot of stuff, so a lot of pictures and updates will be coming in the upcoming months :)

Next post will explain my big plans/improvments!

Nice work. Are you using the IMPCO lpg system ? It is something that i have not ruled out in my ride...

How many liters does the bottle hold ?

Hey Martijn!

It's shocking how quickly time flies. The Coronet Longroof has probably been sold, but not to me. My focus remains on the C-bodies for now.
You've had "meaningful employment" in recent years. My respect for that!!!
I hope that we will meet again this year, either on the Moselle, at the German Mopar Nationls in Marl or again in Duisburg...

Yes I'm running an impco system but cobbled together myself. I'm using a polish GZWM 90 L tank (360mm diameter, 986mm long), net volume is 75L. And using tomasetto at02 extra multivalve with 8mm connection.

The trunk looks big but it was very hard to fit a big tank. With a lot of struggling this was the biggest tank I could fit without losing a ridiculous amount of space. It still takes up way more room than I hoped it would. All the room behind the rear bench is now useless.

Ive placed the tank opening with valve towards the rear bench since that was lost space anyway and to not take up more valuable space in the trunk.

The filler is hidden behind the license plate.

Currently using an Impco model E reducer and 300a 50-70 mixer on top of a vacuum secondary holley brawler carb. But only temporary.

This current setup is not ideal. I wanted to retain petrol driving (bi-fuel), so keeping the carb was a must. And because of this using an 425 mixer was not possible. And there is very little room under the hood between carb and hood. I needed a 90 degree carb hat, and again a 90 turn to mount the 300 mixer. And the model E Reducer and 300A mixer are only good up to ~250hp and the 2 times 90 degree corners are not helping.

I'm going to remove the impco reducer and mixer and I'm going for EFI. My plan is to use a Ecumaster EMU Black with petrol and lpg injectors. With a switch to select petrol or lpg injection, powering the correct injectors and using the correct maps/tables. That should be good up to 450hp, better tuneable and better mileage.

More on this later :)

I'm not sure if the Newport will make it this year but I will try to visit one of tge events :)
