1969 Imperial progress thread

I trust your experience but I have all rebuild parts already, so I'll give it a try! I have cleaned most of the parts already and when I'm done with that, I will put it back together and then we will see.
No reason not to. With all the work you're doing, it's not like rebuilding the carb is a significant increase in the total size of the job.

And by the way, those urine-soaked parts are good candidates for vinegar soaking.

One additional warning, however: vinegar is also used to remove zinc for cleaning before welding. So not only will you be removing any rust, you will be removing any zinc protective coating. That will mean it will rust very quickly again, and if you are going to be a stickler for originality, you will have to figure in re-coating.

Damn Mice, they've eaten everything... The instrument panel, the vents, hoses... Everything -_- And of course, they pissed and shitet everywhere... That's something I have'nt expected...

My. . . My. . . My. . . The Spring Carlisle meet is in two weeks. I'll keep an eye peeled for a dash board for you.

Correct! I'll will try it. I gonna continue night now with the baseplate ;)

Good to know that vinegar removes zinc as well! But I'm not really one of these originality guys... I have absolutely no problem with painting hidden parts flat black or some thing like this!

Damn, they sure made work on your dash! I'll keep an eye out for potential parts cars for you. It looks like you may need a complete instrument cluster and clock, from the appearance of the parts.

I will try to redo most of the original parts because that's what I like! But for some parts that are too far gone like the clock which fell apart by touching it have to be replaced...

Thank you all for your great help! I really appreciate that! Matt offered me help a few times before I even got the car, and now more and more people! That's an awesome community!

Resto thread should be called "From mice to nice". ;)

I never understood how people get mice inside a car, just park it with everything closed.

I found a crack in the base plate and inspected it closer and found more cracks... :(

Is this thing shot?

Hair cracks around the tube seat...

Vodka, I am a gazillion miles away and it's extremely hard to see exactly what's really going on with the former rodent resort.
Seriously, and take a long deep breath before answering.
In your honest opinion, do you have the financial means to get this car to daily driver status?
I'm not asking for your financial statement. Just the ability to keep going to DD status.

Stan, *inhale* yes... *exhale*

It's my first project and it's maybe not the best car to start with. An Imp itself with all its features and this rodent problem is definitely not helping too.

But anyway, I don't have many other choices than to scrap it... And this is not gonna happen! I have the car here, I am willing to restore it and I will do it...

:notworthy: Your amen is as that of jesus himself

Most parts are really dirty. The parts need to just clean is the best thing that can happen to me. I will see what parts have to be replaced.

yeah. cant't stop now EVEN if it takes you 10yrs. THAT car deserves it. "RARE". enough said.

Yes, if it will take 10 years it will take 10 years, but I'm SURE this will not gonna happen! My plan is to get it running to the start of the season next year.

I started to clean the instrument cluster. Doesn't look that bad in detail.

Being far away from the sources for quick replacement through parted out cars really takes you to the actual meaning of "restore". Keeps it as original as possible.

Ya, I know. This sucks. I have to make a list with parts I need and order them together. I can send them to my cousin in NY and she will send them all together to me.

Great work on the dash lens and the carb parts .. I'd still get a kit and put it back together.

As long as those cracks don't allow a vacuum leak no worries
