:70s_rule:You are absolutely right. I refer to Challenger, because I owned them. When you bought the JH23L with the E63 pkg you got the 330HP engine. When you bought the JS23N you got the 335HP engine. So, that is how the two engines were separated from each other. Now, if Chrysler ignored their documentation on all the other cars they made and Installed a 330HP in a car with the N code, then they did. I never owned one of them. However, this Information is readily available. Did anyone really see the VIN on the Chrysler?
If that engine was stamped HP, likely It is. I may be wrong, and I'll gladly say so.69coronetrt Is very Knowlegable, and is much appreciated here, by me as well.

I have never mentioned anything about what was stamped on the block.
That's a whole nuther fustercluck I don't have much knowledge of.

I only know which cars you could have a 330 hp. engine and/or a 335 hp. engine.

You could not get a C-body in 1970 with an engine rated at 335 hp.

In 1970 they were swamped with emissions testing, also.

did anyone really see this car he says had that Code? saying ain't making it so. the HP stamp tells all. If it is there, then it is. Chrysler did a lot of weird stuff. Just a supposition,,,,,,,,,,I have a 69' Cuda 383, no HP stamp.

His words.

Has "N" code 383 HiPo motor with...
Mopar HP engines were never called "HiPo" by Mopar.
So, what does he know...
VIN, Data Tag, Assembly sheet, window sticker, engine block stamp pad, and IBM card please. LOL

There was no need to stamp the HP on an A body 383 as there was only one version. There was no need to differentiate it from another assembly.

When you bought the JH23L with the E63 pkg you got the 330HP engine. When you bought the JS23N you got the 335HP engine.

Pretty sure the L code was the E61 383-2bbl while the E63 was the N code 4bbl.

Last time I talked to Wayne was the tri-state swap meet, Feb. of this yr. and mentioned the FCBO, and he was interested. So, I don't believe he would have a problem, with his contact info on the forum.MADDOX VINTAGE AUTO AND PARTS/MADDOX GAS AND OIL. 5591 E. 72ND AVE COMMERCE AVE. 80022, PHONE: 303 288 2682.Wayne has been through a lot lately, health issues, and his property was flooded 2 yrs. ago [Sep. 2013], please be patient when you call, from experience, it may take a few tries to get him on the phone. This post has generated a good bit of debate,I am 50 mi.'s from the car and I could probably find another reason to go to Denver to check the engine pad.or anything else on the cordoba, that may require "boots on the ground".Now about the BOOBS hanging on the front bumper, Wayne probably purchased the car from an elderly gent who wanted to protect his investment, and purchased these aftermarket beauties, to do just that, from only God knows where! Man no more 5 and dime and no more booby bumperettes..

It is pretty amazing that this thread has gone on for five pages, all over the difference of 5 horsepower. It's ironic since the Cordoba 383 was listed at 290 hp.

My 2 cents. My 70 Challenger JH23N, E63 dual exhaust and dual snorkel air cleaner, painted corp blue, car was built in L.A. . There was red stripe valvle springs in it and same cam as the 335 horse engine. All e body BB have HP exhaust manifolds even 383-2 bbl because the engine sits lower and logs will not fit between the shock towers. If my car was a JS23N it would have been painted red and stamped HP and called 335 horse. I know it it not a C body but Chrysler did not change stuff on a mid range engine to cross car lines.

For the 1970 MY, the B and E assemblies are the same. There are at least six known possible assemblies for E bodies. Cars rated at 335 horse would be orange. Cars rated at 330 horse would be blue. The manifolds had to fit both E and B body cars.

Applications of the engine assemblies vary by a couple of factors; one factor may or may not be model.

There is no 383-4bbl manual transmission 330 horse B/E body assembly in 1970 so any B or E body four speed car would have the 335 horse engine w or w/o A/C regardless of model (i.e. JH/JS, BH/BS, WH/WM, RH/RM)

Automatics with or w/o A/C could be 330 or 335 horse depending on the application.

Again, using simply the N VIN or E63 sales code only tells you what, not which, engine was in the car.

My '71 Challenger is coded E65 which is in the book as HP 300 horse which appears to be the only 383 4bbl available that year. It's an ac car so what color was the engine originally?

My 69 383 Bee engine was orange. It was only 2 years old when I bought it and it was completely stock and untouched.

I love these threads that get deep into what Ma Moper did or didn't do or produce.

No seriously. It's freshly rebuilt and I need to paint it shortly. It hadn't even dawned on me that it maybe should be blue...:sSig_thanks:

Matt, Should be blue the red was for R/Ts, VINs JS which yours can't be as there were no R/T convertibles in 71.

Napa sells Duplicolor engine paint in Chrysler corp blue, it is what I used on the 400 I just put back in my car. It will look a little light when first sprayed but darkens up as it dries.
