I got the block back and took it to my friends garage. He has the tools and knowledge that I lack to put this thing together right I’ll be there learning and helping him along the way.
We thoroughly cleaned it last night and was going to install the cam bearings until we discovered one of them had been damaged in shipping.
We checked the ring gap and it looks to be good out of the box. Also, we drilled a oil return hole above the fuel pump to help keep it lubed.
The cam bearing situation was a bummer but probably was a good thing in a way. We were both tired from working our day jobs and needed a break. We’ll get a fresh start when the new bearings come in.

My buddy goes over everything like it’s an airplane engine. And,he’s got the cleanest shop around. I’m going to give my garage a good cleaning today and maybe put Mickey back in it.
That is a very clean garage. It feels sterile in the pictures. I love it !!

Yeah, I thought I kept my garage halfway decent compared to some I’ve seen but his makes mine look like a landfill. That’s not even the “clean room”.. here’s what’s in there..that’s a 600 cc 4cyl in that hill climb bike. Lot of custom fab work in that machine! He has a street tire on it for dyno tuning.

Everything went together perfectly. Now I’m waiting on the head to be done at the machine shop

Initially, I wanted to use the original points distributor on this project. With my failing eyesight, I decided to not mess with setting points if I don’t have to so I will be upgrading to electronic ignition. This bracket holds the box on the later year C-bodies. I scavenged it from a 73 Polara. This is pretty close to where it’s located on the later year cars. I think the air space it creates behind the box might keep the goop from melting and running down the firewall. As I recall, Chrysler just screwed them to whatever flat surface available later on… also I’ve sloppily painted my aluminum radiator semi-gloss black after scuffing with a Scotch Brite pad.

I’ve taken the transmission and crossmember out to clean them up.
I’m going to install the engine and transmission together. I noticed some factory markings that the meaning of I don’t know, not that it matters.
I believe when the engine was painted at the factory the bell housing was already bolted to it and they got overspray on it. I duplicated that effect the best I could.
Hopefully I’ll have all the parts reunited here next week and start putting it all together!
By the way, this Tuff Stuff does a great job on anything!

Hardened seats, a little porting, new exhaust valves, shaved .030 and .010 shaved from the manifold mounting surface to true it up.
Stayed up till midnight getting it together and had to get up at 5am to go to work. Chase and Sanborn don’t fail me now!

Reunion time! All the parts of the car are in the same garage finally. I just have to re-assemble them. It’s been a rough road getting this done and I’ve had to scratch and claw every inch of the way.
I hit a deer in my truck on the way to work this morning and my son is working on it so I can drive it to work in the morning. When it rains it pours.

Bummer about the truck. At least LMC probably has everything you need to repair it!
