1970 Fury I stripper!

I’m going to install the engine and transmission together. I noticed some factory markings that the meaning of I don’t know, not that it matters.
I believe when the engine was painted at the factory the bell housing was already bolted to it and they got overspray on it. I duplicated that effect the best I could.

Did you purchase the stamps and put the 169 back on the trans?
And reapply the hand painted 57 on it?

Those marks are all the rage with the e body crowd.

For some reason this engine looks more intimidating to install than a V8. Nonetheless, we’re getting ready to put it in place.

You may get the impression that my son is doing the work while I take pictures. Wrong! I’m also supervising!
That kid is good. I’m doing QC and safety too.

Far as we got tonight. Everything underneath is done. Mocked a few things up, cranked it over till we got oil pressure and called it a day. Back on it tomorrow. Don’t worry I’ll be adding the fuel filter before start up,

Excellent.

Looks like it sort of dangles on a slant but not quite enough, thus you had to slant the car so that they could mate just right...?

It’s a little tricky.. the length is the bigger problem. But after it’s in enough to set down , the drivers side mount hits first, then it hinges over to the passenger side. Would have been easier without the transmission but I didn’t want to wrestle it on from underneath. It wasn’t bad, actually.

It. Is. ALIVE!
Started right up with no issues. I’ve run it at 2k RPM for about 5 minutes, let the thermostat open, idled it down and adjusted the timing and carb. I’m letting it cool down and taking myself a break. Later I’m going to change the oil and finish breaking it in.
It sounds great. Starts really easy. Has a throaty exhaust note.
I’m using the plugs and wires that were on it when I dragged it in. The wires are factory and so stiff they are like pre-formed. One of them a mouse has chewed on so I taped it up. Ive got some ordered for it.
Just maybe today old Mickey might move under his own power for the first time in no less than 37 years!
If I don’t give out first. I’ve been going after this project pretty intensely, especially last week. Junk food and 4 hours sleep a night payed off but this old man is tired.

Great work, great project! I'm not sure how old you are, but we are not teenagers! Look after yourself. At 71, I say I can still do most things I used to do- it just takes longer! Lindsay

Im kinda dragging my feet at the moment. Hopefully, evening shift (my son) will come in ready to get with it!

Uhm.. don't you have that fuel filter on backwards?
Lawd have mercy! Thanks! The fuel system is all new so I got lucky. My dumb *** was more concerned about having the clamps all facing the same way! Fixed it.

He moved and went down the road under his own power! I’m so confident that I put the hood back on. Stay tuned for a short video!
