1972 Dodge Monaco wagon, my 1st C body Mopar!

It looks like I may be buying a (mostly) complete parts car. In the meantime, I bought a few needed parts from it. A much nicer (but still cracked) washer fluid bottle, and better front door panels

Paul. If you end up with the car i could use some spare cruise control stuff for a small block. And the trunk lid of course. Nice scores.

Been doing some very gentle cleaning with a toothbrush, this plastic is sooo brittle. Even broke a small part off the lip by merely removing the cap

Went out for a cruise last night with most of the family. Put 97 miles on the wagon and it floats down the Interstate like a dream. Though there does still appear to be an issue with the headlights. After some time, they flash on and off on their own, accompanied by an audible clicking noise coming from the dash area. A bit ago I replaced the old corroded high beam switch on the floor with a new unit, and it's still occurring. Looks like it's about time to run some modern relays under the hood for the headlights.

Check your dimmer switch ....

Then, look at your high beam switch on the floor, but I'm going with dimmer

Thank you for the suggestion...I edited my earlier post to mention that I already changed the high beam switch.

Is the clicking noise your hearing coming from the headlight switch by chance? I believe most headlight switches have a circuit breaker inside them

It's very possible it's eminating from the headlight switch. Difficult to tell as I was scanning to find my way, when they began flashing while in traffic...really jump starts the old ticker when suddenly POW! no lights

There’s a relay for the headlight cover motor as well down there that may be your problem.
It also clicks and draws power from the light switch.

My money is in the light switch. But I would check that the relay may have held itself on and overheated the connection on the light switch..... happened to me with the same symptom and loss of dash lights.

If you don’t have a Dodge FSM, get one to check the wiring diagram. Ive only got the Chrysler, Plymouth, imperial version....

I like the relays for the headlights idea too!

Oh I didn't mention that the headlight motor is inop and unhooked...I'm manually rolling them up and down for now. I've got a 1973 Chrysler FSM but not one for 1972...will look into it. Thanks for your response.
Another thing I've got my hands into is a tilt steering column. Cleaning up and replacing the rubber bushing before swapping it in.

On Saturday I swapped in one of the door panels that I picked up earlier in the month. Here's a closeup of the (melted?) spot...the replacement sure cleaned up nicely!

Have you ever bought a parts car, only to realize it's too good to be a parts car, so you need another parts car? :D
