1972 Fury III 360 101498 miles

Quote on rechrome rear bumper:
· Hanlon Plating 233 – 2021, Jeff: the charge to re-plate the rear bumper of my 1972 Fury is $385. It would be $50 per bumper guard, but I don’t have bumper guards on my car. The process takes 7 to 10 days. He straightens the bumper, removes all dings and dents, sand blast the rear of the bumper, and chrome plates it. $385 covers the total package
· Have not dropped off yet, but seriously considering

Installed RS Grill, $25, incl ship. Looks awesome

Happy Fury (Might replace the LS too, harder to do because no cracks) Spent the rest of day working on my 1990 W150. Water Pump, sudden death on way home yesterday. Fan almost came off. Lucky my new radiator wasn't hurt)

Hey Ben I got a few parts for you, here are the pics. The belts are on good condition if faded a bit, Bob told me that he knows you can get a product that wipes on to rejuvenate the color but he doesn't know the name of it. Will PM you tomorrow about the details, I only got home about an hour ago.

19 day lapse. Sorry, got sick. Truck had to have a new water pump. 1st one bad. Got to do the job twice. High winds blew shingles off my house. Still haven't fixed that. Heavy winter rains > gravel driveway repairs. Did that today. Ug! Will this **** ever end?
So where are we on the 72 Fury?
Yesterday, drove to NC to visit Gary who had done resto work on my dash panel

Great work Gary!

Washed other pieces. Cleaned scratches from instrument cluster lens with toothpaste and Meguiar's polishing compound. Swirls are reflections from my shirt sleeves.

Cleaned Switches, 240 Grit sandpaper and Mopar 50 on spade terminals
Planning to put the dash back together tomorrow. Maybe install this weekend.
Taillight housings and wiring are still on my bench. Tested resistances in every way possible. Drilled extra grounds. Will test live, after dash install.

So now you know what's going in this weekend. All connectors are marked, steering wheel removed, steering column down away from dash. Shouldn't be too bad a job to get things back together. Realize the dash pad looks bad, but that has to wait for the electrical issues to be worked out.

Installation. Some gentleness and patience and my wife holding up the right side of the instrument panel while I connected wires. That's all it took to not bust up the panel on install.

Radio panel has 2 screws at lower edge, directly behind silver surround. Important to remember if you're ever pulling one

Cluster looks nice. Thanks Gary on the lens cleaning tips

Dash Install continued
Floodlight Panel: back edge must be inserted above instrument cluster for front edge to be lifted into position. Long screws, 7/8", angle head, except screw at far left is shorter

Ground for headlight switch body thru arm of mounting plate for HL, WW, Rear Def. Without this screw, might not have proper ground. It was missing when I removed the dash.

Turn Signal Switch installed in steering column

Yes indeed.

And that under-column panel goes half way across the dash, so a lot of it is exposed. Any suggestions on a source for gold paint. I tried Krylon Gold, but it came out like a newly minted penny.

I would check SEM and the color range available through them. They also do vinyl paint for interiors of cars so I'm thinking they would have something close.

Today: I finished installing the steering column, including bracket under dash and base plate at firewall.
BIG NEWS:
I set up the taillight housings in the trunk using jumper wires for ground

Worked today, but got to do some Fury work after I got home
Steering Wheel & Horn Switch Install. Horn switch mounts on those 3 little towers. Wiring goes to that spade term and 2nd wire attaches by machine screw at center ring of the steering wheel

Worked on taillight wiring for rear bumper and went in for supper.

Been following your posts and just wanted to say you are doing very fine work. Persistence, creativity and passion all obviously in play. Well done sir and thank you for sharing.

So you will be driving down soon huh? A photo op with my car. ;)
Maybe sooner than you think!
Reviewed the position of the wiring one last time.
Turned bumper over on work table. Attached taillight lens, NOS on left side. Looks OK from 10 feet.

Cleaned license plate lens and sprayed socket with WD40. GE 67 bulb, old, but in operating condition

Blue wires are extra grounds direct from the taillight housings. No more TL housing>bumper>bracket>body with rusty fasteners. Ground is straight from TL housings to body ground at side marker lights. LS trunk:

Prior LS taillight lens had an entire lens square broken out. Got this NOS for $60. Glad to give the old lens a chance to finally be on a Fury.

Light Test: headlights, taillights, turn signals, brake lights, reverse lights, license plate light, all okay
Big News Gary: Took delivery 1/18/2018. Finally got to drive it 3/13/18.
Test Drive: drove 5-mile loop and took the car up to 60 mph. I added 11 gallons of Exxon premium at a cost of $35. After adding the gas, the car ran almost flawlessly. The pickup was a little slow at one place, but still not bad for a car that hadn't been driven since November. The brakes worked excellently, front disc/rear drum. Although the transmission is a little noisy in reverse, it shifts so smoothly going forward that it is hard to notice the shifts. I heard no unusual noise from the rear axle or suspension. The steering is a little loose, but all of these cars feel that way, because they don’t have rack and pinion steering. I let out a big shout while driving and was very happy!

Its always a big wave of joy when it all comes together and you take it for a drive. All that hard work paid off!

Super cool! Enjoyed watching you taking care of business, efficiently working out the issues and now driving the car. That bumper and taillight combo looks pretty darn nice, glad you got all the lights working. Congratulations!
