Replaced the carb, runs like a top. Improved

Still having issues with the brakes though...
Would the lines, too close to the exhaust manifold, getting hot- cause an issue? They work great for a while...then you gotta use both feet to stop...

Probably not. How's the booster? Is it original? Sounds like you're loosing power and reverting to non-power...which the pedal is not setup for.
Mopars all suffer from brake fade for some reason, but a quick pump brings it right back. That doesn't sound like the issue though

As in a very hard pedal?? like no power assist?? May need booster rebuilt or replaced??
Brakes adjusted tight? Also, were the shoes "glazed" over? Can't remember if you did new shoes/drums. If I do new shoes, I usually break the glaze on the drum with sandpaper

Brakes work perfect, then after things get hot, dont...pedals not hard. New shoes- drums weren't glazed. New self adjusters. The only thing not replaced was the booster.
Everything after the booster is brand new- master cylinder, lines, all hardware, shoes. Drums were good, so didn't replace those either.
Brakes worked great before replacing everything also...
Maybe its an adjustment issue...or the booster needs rebuilt.

The buyer of the car will be signing up here soon. Cool kid excited to build his first classic. He reads this thread, and will likely start a new one here for this car.
My father in law gave me first shot at his 20 year restoration with an offer I couldn't turn down, can't keep both- so sold the new yorker. I thought the brakes were good, but on his way home, he said he had a hard time stopping again...feel bad for the kid...

Welll im not the kid you sold the car to but i am the new owner of this beauty. The kid kept the car a few years and switched up to a different car. I bought this car on march 31st 2024. He sent me this thread so i could see what has all been done to the car. I am so happy to have all of this information with the car. Great work on fixing it up. I have already started working on it and plan on starting a new thread to continue the cars progress.
Nice thread revival @jthom617, it’s actually the first time I’ve have read it. I have a ‘65 300L that I’m currently working on.
I’ll be looking forward to the continuation of the New Yorker story.
