66 Sport Fury-From The Beginning

I've been looking for a good while now Jeff. Three cars and not one good hood! Thanks for the assist!
Have you ever checked out Philbates? That is if they're even still open. They used to have a lot of stuff from the 60's.

Got off early today so I was all excited to stop by the body shop. I guess I should have prepared myself since I figured the guys would be working on the main body by now.....

Not Good! Lots of prior repairs (very low quality I might add), bondo in the trunk pan resulting in the ole swiss cheese look, and a good bit of rust.

Nothing there that's freaking out the body shop guys but I am seriously going to need a replacement trunk pan.

I should have counted on it getting worse before it got better.....

Man that looks familiar. Once they hit it with the blaster everything shows up. Nothing that I would consider abnormal here.
As a word of caution though. Before you start putting things together remove the steering column and disassemble because that media is going to be inside of it and will get into the bearings.

Yeah, I saw it this morning when I picked up my wagon. No real surprise with the mud in the quarters. But, to me the important part is that the top of the wheel arches look solid. That indicates the inner wheel house should be solid. If the top of the wheel arches have to be made, it often ruins the entire wheel opening and the factory fender skirts end up not fitting. Your car doesn't seem to have that issue. Trunk floors appear to be available at least. But be careful who you order from since alot of companies (including Classic Industries) do not appear to be shipping any product at this time. A quick search turned up this supplier, but I know nothing about this company.

OK so not such a great weekend on the Frankenfury…...
Got the call from the body shop late Saturday night letting me know that they needed me to make some decisions about the poor condition of both rear quarters. Also the trunk rot is extensive and quarters/trunk pans appear to be non existent at this point (mostly COVID-19 related).
Seems like one step forward and two steps backward at this point.
So I hitched up my big boy pants this morning and began the Hussle!
Check out the last picture.
A couple weeks ago I sent the VIP parts car to the scrapper. When the gentleman arrived to pick up the car he mentioned he was going to set it out for a while at the scrap yard in case someone needed anything from it. So today we both had a good laugh when I showed up this morning to buy it back and he's gonna deliver it to the body shop on Tuesday. The lowers will still require repair but the quarters are bondo free!
I purchased a new replacement trunk pan from Andy's. Don't know when/if it will deliver but I'm sure I'll find out when they open tomorrow. I'll report back when I know more.....

Sorry to hear that. It sounds like the same problems I had. You are lucky to have replacement quarters because the only ones you can buy are horrible and basically junk. At least the floor boards are good.

I've seen a set of full quarters floating around either FB marketplace or Craigslist for several months but for some reason I cant find them now....
And this danged vert parts car I bought has more bondo in it than mine:BangHead:

I could tell by this picture that the right quarter was going to be a problem.

Glad that you had access to decent replacements. Too bad that the VIP didn't come with a nice trunk lid and hood on it.

Jeff

Can you tell I'm excited about getting the body work and paint done?

Here's a few update pics showing the Por 13 going in some hard to reach places and the floor.

Also being told the trunk pan and drops will arrive on Monday.

In the meantime doors/hood/trunk are primed and the fenders will be next. Can't hardly contain myself in anticipation of paint!

Rod we have lots going on right now haha. Stuff shipping in-stuff shipping out. Removing stuff from the parts car here at my place. I can hardly keep up with them all the while working the full time job and dealing with all of the COVID-19 issues. My wife thinks I'm crazy.

My wife is standing right there with your wife. . .

Good way to pass the time while we are locked in. I would like to do more but am limited right now because of my bum shoulder so just back working on birdhouses for now.

Just so everyone doesn't think we're slacking off here in VA.
Spent some time this weekend removing the back seat interior pieces from the vert parts car so I could salvage the side panels and specifically the passenger rear window regulator since this part was missing on the Frankenfury.
On Monday the replacement trunk pan and drops that I purchased from a vendor on ebay arrived and I delivered them all on Monday evening to the body shop. They have the car back inside and are set to begin work in the next couple of days.
I also received the 6 re-chromed door spears I got a great deal on from an ebay vendor and a set of new aftermarket door handles purchased from a c body facebook page member who had them left over from his restore. The spears will need the red, white and blue accent paint added but that should be no problem.
