66 Sport Fury-From The Beginning

Looking great!

I believe that's the same color I was planning to use on my '67 Newport. It was most common to find it on the LeBaron convertibles, such as this one at Carlisle.

Are you still planning on a black interior?

White would go so nicely with the color you chose.

Jeff

That's the color!
And since I have already ordered the black seat covers, I guess we'll be going back in black. I doubt I'll ever take it out with the top up anyways....

Just get used to flipping the buckets forward when you get out or you will regret it. Or have a blanket readily available to throw in the seats. I am sure the white would get hot too. I think black will look great with the colour. I am assuming black top as well.

White interior would look nice with that color, but the 66 Sport Fury interior color choices didn't include white. Interiors were available in red, blue, black, tan, and citron (kind of a greenish gold). Of those choices, black is the only color that would work.

As long as you flip the bucket seats forward 10 minutes before you get in when the car has been parked in the sun, you won't burn your behind.

Thanks Jim. I have already ordered the black replacement covers and hadn't even looked at whether white was available but now that you mention it I've never seen stock white interior.
BTW, during my commute home on I think it was Thursday, I saw two huge sets of grinning teeth driving Eastbound on Rte 7 in a convertible Barracuda with the top down.....

Yes, that was us. That day we drove over to White Post Restorations to inquire about rebuilding the original power brake booster for my 68 Charger. They were rather expensive and the turnaround time was a bit long, so we didn't leave it with them. Looks like it will be cheaper and quicker to buy a new booster. The goal is to have the Charger ready for Chrysler Carlisle.
We had installed a new booster I bought 5 years ago. Now that the car is road worthy, we found that a there must be a faulty check valve inside, as the brakes won't release completely. Even though its the first time being used, the vendor won't do anything for me since its been five years. Thats the risk I take when buying parts for a car that could take years to get back on the road.
The picture above is in the village of White Post and just down the street from White Post Reatorations. The retoration of the vintage gas station is near completion.

Another update. Parts are still trickling in and being installed, so I took a few shots in random order. The second windshield rubber arrived and it fit so the WS is in!!! Fuel tank reinstalled, the SF and commando badges on the front fenders and reinstalled the old junk tail lights. I have a spare set that is going to have to go to the chrome shop soon so the old ones will have to do until then. Got the dash prepped and painted. Man that looks better!
Next step is re-installing the bumpers and the outer front wheel well liners.

I also wanted to mention that the folks at Steele Rubber were great to deal with. My stuff showed up pretty quick and the problem we had with the WS gasket not working was resolved without a blink. They gave me a return ship number and UPS is gonna pick it up and they'll issue a full refund. Don't tell my wife-I need some other stuff.....

Still moving along here. Seems like we've been on body work for weeks but she's almost ready for sunlight...
Got most of the rubber installed, both bumpers on and the I forget what it's called that goes under the grill, the fender skirts, and the old top back on temporarily until the new top and the seat covers, etc arrive. There's still the lower windshield trim and adjusting the hood/trunk/doors to be done. I'm also missing the pillar to vent window gasket so I have to get that ordered.
She'll be coming home pretty soon so I can get busy with mechanicals and additional trim. I cant wait to put the stock rims and Sport Fury hubcaps on and see how they look! Remember the grill parts and all of the belt trim is stuck in Michigan for a while longer.
Some stuff here is temporary like the bent up trim holding the top on at the trunk area. I have another from the parts car that we'll use as finished product along with the retainers that the guys at work are fabbing for me. Outer fender wells cant be installed until we install the belt trim and we cant install the cowl until I get off my butt and ship the wiper motor out for rebuilding to Topher.

The light in the shop is playing games with the paint job in most of these pics!

and I'm sure there will be paint touch up after she hits the sunlight and after we install the 440 in a few weeks...

Ok just left the body/paint shop and she's done for now. The rollback will be bringing her home tomorrow. Next step is motor & tranny while we wait for the grill & trim to arrive from Michigan. Once that shows up we'll go back to the body shop for grill/trim install, any touch up needed from the mechanical work, and some final aligning of doors/hood/trunk and a good wax/detailing job...

Great looking car. Can’t wait to see the finished product with you behind the wheel. Top down of course.

Very cool! It looks great. I have pictured of my 67 wagon in the exact same parking spot when it was freshly painted. Your car is already farther along than my wagon. I still have a couple other projects to finish before starting the assembly on my wagon.

Honestly, I'm still feeling a bit overwhelmed by the amount of stuff left to do but I'm just planning to keep marching forward until it's done.

Now would be a good time to look back at some of my early posts where we talked about just sprucing it up and not doing a full restoration..... Not sure who I was trying to kid?

Seems to happen to a lot of us. You will enjoy it and doing the work will soon be a faint memory trust me.

OK She's finally home! SWMBO has the grandchildren up for some Grammy time so I'm taking these younger guys out to the driveway to remove the spare 440 from the Vert parts car.

Enjoy your weekend folks!

I showed these pics to the wife and granddaughters. You have a big thumbs up from them all. The youngest is quite a car fanatic and she likes the colour a lot although she says mine is a nicer colour. I do think she is just being nice to me though.
