Couldn't find anything in the FSM about removing wheel studs from drums...could find the procedure about disc brakes though. Is it possible to remove just the wheel studs from the rear left drum and press/hammer in new ones? I do not care for left-hand threads and want to replace them with right-hand threaded studs. Especially with the upcoming disc brake conversion, as the wheel hub on the front left will now have RH threads.

If this is an 8.75 rear end, I would suggest pulling the axle and pressing out the old studs. If you do not want to go to that much trouble, you can drive out the old studs with a brass drift, that drift will keep you from damaging the axle flange. Several manufacturers make a tool to re-install the studs. It is a bearing that is placed on the flange, the new stud is inserted inside the bearing and a lug nut is used to drag the stud into the flange. The best way is still to use a press but the re-iinstall can be done either way.

The rear wheel studs are in the AXLE flange, not in the drums.

oooh right. took off the front ones and had those stuck in my head. So the rears can be removed with a hammer?

Take the drum off and yes, you can take them out with a hammer. Put a lug nut on the stud to not butcher the threads and save the studs for someone that may want them.

Here's how I did mine Post #11 and 12 in this thread. Tool tips

The stud installer makes it easier, but it can be done with a pile of washers and a little grease. The stud installer, at $11, is probably cheaper than a pile of washers LOL. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0B7DPDGKZ?ref_=ppx_hzsearch_conn_dt_b_fed_asin_title_2

The correct way to do it is remove the axle and press the old studs out and press the new studs in using a press. Anything else is a compromise. You risk stripping/awakening the treads using a lug nut. to pull the studs into the axle flange.

A vice will push the studs out. I've just done it to the front left hub on my '67 Monaco after popping the hub out of the drum.
