'69 Fury III Convertible Build Thread- Project IVY

This is how I did my light buckets so that they would still be reflective but blend in a bit better.

The reflective area is Duplicolor Bumper Chrome (I didn't have any Krylon Chrome), the black is DOM 16

Also cleaned and painted the bumper brackets with the DOM 16

Question, what should I use to polish my bumpers up?

Nick

Looking good Nick! Damn, I'm going to have to do a total rebuild project after I get the NY'er done and before I get too old.

I have yet to find a product that truly works on polishing old chrome. Your best bet is rechroming what you have[/QUOTE

True.... nothing will look as good as rechrome..... Just costs alot.
After a through cleaning with dawn dish wash liquid and warm water I use a product called "Brite Boy". It cleans really well and will diminish the "foxing" found on old chrome.
A product of Carroll..... www.carrollco.com

Looks like your doing a great job Nick. To me fixing up all the small componants like your doing is where the fun is..... not to mention the gratification everytime a piece is finished. Put it in a bag and dream of the day you can reinstall it.

Where do you buy it from? I looked at the website and I couldn't find a link to sale sites.

I got two bottles when I helped a friend clean out a couple of 'Ben & Jerrys" ice cream shops that had closed. Perhaps a resturant supply co may have it. I'm getting low on mine so will try to find a supplier.

I've never been able to figure out what is used to get fingerprints or streaks off stainless steel refrigerator and stoves. I use plain water and then use micro-fiber towels. Not perfect but it'll work....it's a lot of work.

WAY BACK.... when I was still in grade school, my parents owned and operated a Dairy Queen. As a young soda jerk I remember using carbonated, (soda), water to clean all the stainless surfaces.

Thanks guys, planned to go and do some work this evening after I got home from the college, but that didn't happen, instead we got around a foot of snow.

What did you use on the lettering? Looks good.

While it's on the bench you might want to play around with trying to highlight the bezel lines around the instrument openings and switch escutcheons. I picked up a silver paint pen from an art supply store and it does a reasonable job - not plastichrome like original but pretty good.

Looks really good. How did you get the lettering so nice? Sorry didnt see the previus answers. Nice job.
