'71 Sport Fury

Thanks guys, the 360 is really nice, how's the 71 compare to the other years anyway?

You guys ever add a 4bbl to yours? How did it improve?

.

I have owned a 71 360 2 barrel . There was a small in diameter dual exhaust on it ( non factory) when I bought it. I had swapped it out with a custom system with 2 1/2" pipes. After that it pulled hard until I sold it with 150,000 miles on it. I never put a 4 barrel on it, I guess I wish I had but I always planned on building the engine.

Nice, that's what I'm planning on, and the carb and exhuast are both in need of replacement on my car anyway so it was something that needed to get done anyway.

Thanks for the input

I put in a call to the exhuast shop today, they'll be working on my car on next Tuesday. I'm going with a 2.5 inch dual exhuast with an H pipe set up.

I don't know if I should bother with mufflers, I imagine they'll be more expensive and they might cut performance down a bit. Should I even bother with them?

Personally I don't really care about excess noise, I'm more worried about performance. I suppose if it doesn't make a difference I'll get the mufflers

I can take the sound right now, and it has a massive hole underneath the passenger seat so pretty much all the sound comes from there, bypassing the muffler anyway.

You absolutely positively need to get some mufflers...

Maybe you should repair the whole in the floor. That would also help with noise reduction

Hah, yeah that's a good point, although in my area they pretty much only target ricers when it comes to noise violations.

There aren't any holes, sorry I meant there was a hole in the exhuast right under the passenger side

Well I'm gonna be going with the mufflers I think, Hope they don't end up costing too much extra though. I ordered the 4bbl carb and intake as well, I'll show you guys some pictures when they come in.

Right not my car is leaking a bit of coolant every once in a while. Nothing to really get too alarmed about. Turns out my lower radiator hose is loose, I got one of those Champion Radiators they sell on Ebay a while back. Fantastic radiator but now radiator hoses don't seem to fit as well as they used to because of a slight difference in length between the Champion radiator and the original one. I'm gonna try adjusting it today, and maybe try to cut a new hose a little better then I did last time. Must have cut it a little short and it pulled loose ever so slightly. It's the lower radiator hose by the way, which is a little harder to deal with then the upper.

In other news my car's windows keep fogging up. I think the heating system might have a leak in it or something? Anyway the inside of the car likes to fog up pretty good on colder days, and the defogger is basically useless. What does seem to help though is the vent switch next to the parking brake release. It lets in a bunch of outside air and clears the fogging up pretty fast, even on the rear windows. Problem is it gets cold as hell doing that. Anyone have any suggestions?

fogging of windows inside would lead me to believe your heater core has a leak...er do you have a rear defogger setup as well?

I don't think I have a rear defogger, if I do it doesn't help at all. What does a repairing a heater core run anyway? Would it be possible to disconnect it in the mean time?

Absolutely, positively, without a single doubt it's the heater core. I think...

You live in Wisconsin and you want to bypass the heater core? :realcrazy:

Hah, I know it sounds crazy but I barely use the heat in my cars, unless my girlfriend is with me. Years of harsh winters have built up my tolerance.

Anyway I'd probably fix it before next winter but in the mean time I'd like to drive it while being able to see outside of it lol.

You guys think it's the heater core then?

pretty shure...least if the front windows fogging up...should be a residue left on window realy unless is straight water..if your not gona fix right away but use vehicle is adviseable to shut off flow at firewall and cap or you'll be having overheating issues once enough fluid has escaped through heater core...then its a mess on passenger floor ect at some point

If its the heater core, you should have a very sweet odor to go with the fog...

I haven't quite noticed an odor but the fog does leave a bit of a film. I have a pretty bad sense of smell though, so that could be why I haven't noticed anything. I'm thinking of bypassing the core to see if that fixes it.
