The clicking is the circuit breaker. The door has hit its stop and the motor is still trying to open or close it.
I had an R-body New Yorker do the same thing. There is a limit/park switch in the motor that turns the motor off when it hits the end of its travel.
Mine was good to close it but the circuit breaker clicked when open.
I just unplugged the motor when it was open and left them that way unless I was at a show. Sold the car before I got around to fixing it right.
