AMC Gremlin

I would prefer it to be a nice stock classic. So will be rebuilding the 232. I'm not looking for power anyway, the stock numbers are just fine for the small Gremmy.

Need to measure the block and crank to order the correct size bearings and pistons. 600 USD for a complete master rebuild kit is not such a bad deal i would reckon.

Thanks for the idea anyway!

Read this start-to-finish.
Quite a story, finding a car, the fire, finding a 2nd car and tearing into it for resto.
You've gotten a lot done in the last 3 years!

Thanks for all the feedback!

Just before work i chose the interior materials for the new seats and door inserts. I will go with the "Levi" edition look, but without the original cloth -i just dont have the nerve to deal with sms fabrics again.

For the doors i will go with fake leather "sky color" , and for the seats i chose "kobalt" from alcantara. The design should be something like below, but i have a bench not bucket seats, so it will differ. The sides of the seats and center will be from the "sky" fake leather.

I also chose the exterior color. The original Quicksilver from the 71' AMC paint pallet, with the 73' (my Gremmy is 73) X package stripes.

What do u guys think about the interior color in blue? Or should i just stick with black not to mix things up???
Hmm

I think if you put orange stitching in there, it's a good representation of original.
Sometimes things don't need to be exact.

Silver and blue are a great color combo!

@Unix
The grain pattern and gloss level of that vinyl look familiar.
What brand/manufacturer is it?
Don't know, but will check.

In the meantime got some bits from the US, and the car was completely dissasembled.

Floors, rocker panels, rear window foil, centercaps.... and new windshield - which arrived cracked. Damn.

Lots of sandblasting bits and powdercoating underway.

You'll have this thing shiny and roadworthy before I get my sparkplugs changed!
That Gremlin cap (for the steering wheel?) has red-white-blue similar to what a Chrysler 300 might have.

Thats the original gas cap they had.
Thanks for the words of support

The green turd has changed color. Lots of rust and a little more ;) . The metal man is gonna have fun cutting and welding all this mess. The paint shop is scheduled for march 2024, a bit on the optimistic side.

The car rolled in the body shop. Some very small progress, custom fabricating the inner rocker panel.

& a nice Biscayne being put together at the shop. Not mine

More work on the green creature. Lots of fabrication required - especially on the rocker panels and floors off ebay. It really does not need to be perfect. Would be nice if it was more or less straight, with most of the rust cut out and replaced. I will Krown rust proof the car with drilling holes in the doors and rocker panels and all enclosed spaces. Should keep it mostly rust free for sometime.

Both rocker panels done more or less. Floors on one side. Sub frame structures rebuilt in some areas.
