attention squad savvy: questions about my 71' NJSP Fury

My 2 cents looks more like 999 not TX9. What is the significance of F33, F38?

F33 = Spotlight on left pillar
F38 = Roof reinforcement

A38, you have the ability to answer some very important questions....

1) take the tag off, turn it over and see if you can see what the exterior paint code is. Lightly clean and or sand off the rust scale if necessary. My gut feel is that you will see 999 meaning Special Paint like on the tag below.

2) Pull the back seat or look under the carpets to see what color the body pan is. that will help confirm what color the car was originally painted. You can also look up underneath the package tray from the trunk. Look in areas that would not normally be painted during a repaint. Most people would not strip down the car completely and repaint it that way. the original color is probably still on the car somewhere. Don't be distracted by what you find on the doors. Look under the back seat.

3) Pull the upper rear seat and look for a broadcast sheet.

4) report back with your findings.

Until then, we are just spinning our wheels.

Have you pulled the back seat to see what color the floor pans are and to look for broadcast sheets?
Look for sheets in the lower rear seat, the seat back and under the front seat.
Finding a broadcast sheet will answer a lot of questions.

My car a 69) didn't have painted floor pans, may have been a fleet thing.

The dip is for the primer/sealer and it only goes up to just under the belt line and does not include any of the roof structure.

As I have shown before my trunk pans were not painted as well.

The body is then sprayed with the actual primer. From there the shell with door and trunk hinges (and hood hinges on all non C-Body) gets jammed this is when the interior would be done, on the earlier car it was to get any panels that needed finish paint. At this era it was a manual process.

Somewhere at the same time the hood, trunk and doors are painted on the inside then all the panels along with the fenders are assembled. By now if the car has a painted roof or stripe those areas get painted and masked off.

With everything together the car is put on a conveyor to be painted. I have seen pictures of a hoop spraying the cars and I have seen pictures of men spraying, I do not recall if the ones with the men (no respirators) was the car together yet, if it was they may have been earlier onse before they started to automate it.

Some of his outline comes from verious shows that mention things, pictures and personal observations (forensics) when taking the car apart.

Thanks polara! I always thought it was since i was a young lad. This car was/is my first love for cars. It made me a gearhead
Very cool to have the car that turned you into a gearhead. I am from a young age but it was Dick Landy's 70 Challenger drag car. No chance of me ever owning that one, your lucky.

Can anyone id the year of this NJSP fury?

Found this pic, it's the cover of a book.

I was surprised that NJ used Fury III's, PA used II's and they always took the chrome off the front doors so as to not interfere with the logo. I was also surprised by the cloth rear seat. Tough to clean drunk puke off those seats. :icon_lol: I thought most agencies used I's and II's.

1971 did not have vent windows.

I saw this pic too. I believe that is a 70' fury III.

The sheet i found under the back seat is incorrect for the car. Doesn't seem to be one under the front seat. Haven't checked the back seat back yet...

Ok, i took out the back of the rear seat. It had a build sheet in it which matched the seat bottom. BOTH are incorrect for the car. I suspect the backseat may have been changed out early in its life. So i guess that leave the kickpanels and under the carpet. already checked under the front seat and inside the dash around the glove box.

I also got around to removing the fender tag. The underside of it is easier to read. There ARE two rows of the 999 code.

Pulled up the backseat and it is grayish in color (may be white thats dirty?)

No spotlight through the pillar post.

GOOD! So is this how the tag is coded?

26 END
G33 H51 M28 R11 V5X Y39
999 U A38 F33 F38 F58
999 M1XA TX9 613 K06915
E86 D32 PM41 U1F 238115

Did the color appear to be primer or did it appear to be an actual color paint? Look in odd places like under the package tray. Behind the dash or other areas that would not be painted during a repaint.

I removed the tag tonight, cleaned it up and deciphered this:

F82 H51 M28 R11 V5X Y39

P.s. it has an electric trunk release if that is of any significance.

I will try to look at the finish under the carpet tomorrow. Storage locker was pitch black and all i had was a flashlight. .

thanks, I'm in pemberton twp burlington county.

Hey! You're right down the road from me. My wife and I just bought a house in Pemberton. I will be moving my '69 NY to the house in a week. Perhaps we may run into one another one day. If you ever see a tan 4-door HT rumbling down the street (it has 1/2" glass packs on it), that is probably me.
