This car is definitely interesting, but I’m still skeptical. If I had a car like this, I wouldn’t have provided grainy photos of everything that really matters in a 40-year old car. I see a great photo of the dash and trunk lid, but the car itself is unnecessarily grainy. In addition, these photos were taken in some type of commercial location, since one sign states: “Employees Only”. It appears to be a garage, yet I see no photos of what appears to be the original tires, the undercarriage, etc. There is only 1 photo of the engine compartment. This 187 mile car initially came from a dealer over 200 miles way, so it was towed, by someone who had, or has some type of commercial business, probably the one that’s pictured here.

The ad states: “All accessories are in working order”, but there appears to be something wrong with the wipers. I'd consider that to be a rather important accessory. What about the gas tank, the carb, etc? If I look close, I see scratches where they don’t belong. I see a driver’s floor mat that somehow got dirty with only 187 miles in 40 years. I see a hose clamp replaced. How does that leak on a car that's never driven? How is such a small leak even identified? Why would someone even bother to fix it, unless the radiator looks pretty bad? Why is there no picture of the radiator? Individually, each issue is minor, but when combined with possible missing parts such as a non-standard air cleaner cover and missing battery thermo guard, I just have to wonder why. I typically see a few cars like this in-person, every year. Unfortunately, they very rarely turn out to be everything that you expect. The seller usually advertises them like this, and they always want lots of money. Then you find out what really happened.

The grainy photos and the lack of a more thorough narrative are my biggest concerns, especially for someone looking to make a lot of money on this sale.

I wouldn’t be too surprised to see this car at Carlisle in 2 weeks, and it probably will sell. Caveat emptor.

Good Points. One thing a lot of people do not remember is that ALL cars made before the 1990's, you could go in and set the mileage to whatever you wanted.
When I checked out John's, (Moparnutcase) Cordoba, the biggest clue to the mileage was the factory brake drum retainers still in place.

He provided a phone number.
He's 80 years old, has a beautiful Imperial Convertible, and is a Mopar guy from way back.
I forgive him for the pics. Like I said, he's around 80.

I can remove some of the concerns over the issues mentioned. I can say for sure that not all 1978 cars had the pie tin or sticker on the air cleaner. Mine does not, and never did. It's a late build car with a 440. By 1978 Chrysler was getting away from the "Lean Burn" name and switched to "Electronic Spark Control System", which was printed on the decal on the computer.

The Thermal Guard won't fit over the style of battery that's in the car, and I would guess that it's likely sitting in the garage somewhere.

I agree that the wiper cam probably broke the first time someone tried the wipers. The wiper transmissions could be stiff from sitting for so long.

I think the upper rad hose may have been replaced. My car still has it's original one, and I think it has two stripes on it, one white and one orange. I wouldn't be shocked if it sprung a leak where the hose slides over the thermostat housing, just from sitting, and someone replaced the hose.

I can also say that those wheelcovers have no miles on them. They are plastic, and it didn't take much to get the chrome plating to peel off of them.

For the kind of money that it's going to take to buy this car, I'd want to see it in person first, but I don't have much doubt that it's legit.

BTW: Does anyone know where I could get my hands on a nice set of these "W23 Premium Wheel Covers"? I've looking for a while.

Those are tough to come by. I can't say that I've ever seen a nice set for sale at Carlisle, all the years that I've been going. They are chrome plated plastic, so they don't hold up as well as a stainless wheelcover does. I believe that you also need to switch over to 7 inch wide rims for them to mount on the wheel.

All those minor issues sold for $20,000.00
Wow, that is one nice-nice! car in those grainy photos.

Caveat emptor. I see the buyer's initials were B_S.

In reference to the wheel covers, they are occasionally available on e-bay. This is the Cordoba example. One is available today. Just keep looking. The NYB ones will show up. The ones on my 78 NYB were of very good quality, even at 90k miles.

Hi Jeff,
Did you buy your 78 NYB new?

Very nice. I've had 4 formals so far. The most recent one is a 77 NYB. I hated those wiper issues with the 78's, but still have a NOS wiper linkage, just in case.
I take the 77, and all of our remaining classic cars to AACA meets (Antique Auto Club of America). They can be unbelievably picky sometimes, and that's why I tend to be so, myself.

I had them on my 78 NYB with 6.5" wheels.
