The seller was watching this thread right from the beginning.
And maybe the buyer, too.
Not necessarily members.

I guess the bar is now set at $20k for formals. Since you seem to have spoken with the seller, did he get into any details, absent in the ad, ie:
  • How does it run?,
  • Do the wipers work properly?
  • Does the Temp Control A/C work properly?
  • Does it need 4 new tires?
  • Has the gas tank or carb been cleaned or replaced,
  • etc?

Never spoke to him. It's all from search engines.

I'd be willing to bet it was Jim Gesswein in South Dakota that picked this car up! He's piling up a pretty good inventory of Formals and an occasional Fusie!

I know for a fact of two vehicles a couple years ago he way, way over paid for and then took a bath on the cars when he sold them!

Not the first time I have seen something like this. Car stalls at a price way below the possible reserve and bin price. Then all of a sudden someone comes out of the blue and pays the bin rather than bidding it up. Just seems fishy to me what can I say.

Bar? I don't think so.

I'm always fascinated when a seller can't provide good photos, even though they know how to manipulate photo(s) to remove the license plate. This is a great photo of the trunk, but there isn't even one photo of the front end, let alone all of the other issues.

-In addition, this car had no "Buy it Now" price until minutes before the auction ended, and it miraculously sold for more than double the highest bid.

$20k is not the bar for Formal's.

IF.....this car is actually a 187 mile survivor and there isn't ANY major disaster's then it's worth $20k. I doubt we see another such low mileage survivor. There probably are a few more out there....

I would say no one from FCBO bought the car....dang it. But it is possible someone will bring it to Carlisle in July.

This car stalls at $9.5k and then poof its sold for $20k? So the sale seems a little suspect....I guess we'll see if it is back on sale on EBay in a month. The pictures were not very good and as someone else pointed out that the license plate was blocked even though the owner is 80. I hope I can still block license plates on pictures when I'm 80. I would of posted undercarriage, rear quarter pictures, no wear on the brake pedal pictures, etc. It is possible that Gesswein bought it and we'll see it on hi website soon for $25k-$30k. Or it's possibly going oversea's..... doubtful though because they prefer Fusie's.

I still don't get it why people think it's necessary to block the license plate. If it's sitting outside, it's visible by anybody. Are they scared of a corrupt law enforcement person looking up the address so they can come and steal a '78 Chrysler...and then re-list it on ebay after some "cool down" time? :BangHead:

To hide it from the derby guys. Lol

There is a simple explanation for the wipers not being parked, the engine is obviously running in the picture of the engine(look at the alternator pulley), it appears to be raining in other pics, and my guess is that the wipers are in the intermittent position.
