Classic Car insurance

The problem I have was not having a late model daily driver, with my 4 car older than 1970 non of the specialty insurance companies will talk with me.

I don't believe Hagerty ever asked me what my daily driver was and who the drivers were in the family. On the other hand, I just put another car on CSAA and they asked a bunch of questions as to who and how far. So Hagerty has the five from 65-73 and CSAA has the four from 1990-2004.

Had my Mustang and Cougar with them for many years. When I got the big Merc, in 2004, is when I used Hagerty. Then the F100 and Polara went to them. I switched the Mustang and Cougar over in 2010 when because American Collector made it difficult to raise my stated value. Both cars were at $10,000 and should have been $18,000-20,000 at the time. Hagerty said fine no problem,

I had no problem raising to under 25,000 without a appraisal.

I have Grundy for $186 per yr. with and Agreed value of $9,000, Looked at Hagerty but as previously mentioned they rated me based on having (1) daily driver car plus other restriction. So far! I'm a Grundy fan. Only restriction was that you can't drive the car to work.. Comprehensive, collision, glass and other goodies included.. Just my 2 cents.

That is the same problem I ran into with Condon - Skelly. My "daily driver" is a '95 Caprice, and was trying to get them to cover my 2002 B4C Camaro. They said they wouldn't insure it, because my daily driver was older than the Camaro. So, I asked them: "If I buy a new car, would you insure the Camaro then ?" They said they would look at it again, at that time. I think they were just blowing me off. . .

Double check with them if you insured one of the old cars as a daily driver with full coverage thru a seperate company. If they won't then purchase a newer used ex squad as daily driver and the rest with Hagerty etc.

The reason given is that an old car is more likely to break down and you'll be driving the specialty car as a daily driver.

I think i will be going with grundy and if that dosent work I will try hagerty. One more thing tho, my wife is the "applicant" and if I put me as a driver of the classic and say im the "spouse" it tells me that "at least one driver must have the relationship (insured) to the applicant". Do I need to put my wife down as a driver too and say shes "insured" and then me just as the spouse or should it work if I just put me as the only driver of that car on it? Its a bit confusing....

Not sure if Oregon is the same as up here but they rate the worst driver record or higher risk driver against the most valuable vehicle to maximize premiums. In other words, if there are 2 drivers in the household with access to both vehicles regardless of who you say drives which the premium would be based on worst case scenario for the insurance company. Eg. My wifes van is registered to her but insured for both of us to drive it as we both have access to it and premiums are based on the higher risk driver (me) even though i have both a daily and 2 classics registered to me. She is on all 4 vehicles as insured driver as am I.

*scratch head* ....yeah okay. I get that! Ok so I guess im asking, do I have to add her as a driver and declare her as insured and then add me as "spouse"? Or is she as the applicant automatically an insured driver and I just add me as a driver as "insured"?

For WIW the little I do know... Any driver within your household must be listed on the policy or they can never, never, never drive the vehicle. Insurance companies and regulations vary as you cross state lines, its really closer to lawyer territory to sort out the fine print.

Your agent should be able to guide you, its their job, better to stay honest about everything. If a person from your household drives the car and causes damage, they better be listed on the policy or the insurance company can get out of paying and put the accident damages onto you. Working on high end cars, I have seen hundreds of thousands of dollars in mechanical damage when multiple cars are concerned... medical just makes it worse.

Regardless of the value paid to you in a loss, the true purpose of insurance is to cover your liabilities in an accident. State laws vary, and homeowners should consider that they have greater liability requirements than state minimums.

Here's the questions I was asked:

Got a daily driver? Yep.

Got a garage? Yep.

How much do you want to insure it for and how do you want to pay for this? .....

So I have no trouble getting the grundy application, in fact, I would already have it ready to send off.

However, I would much rather go to hagerty since there I can even put that the car is under a carport and give some more detailed policy adjustments. They are bit more expensive but thats alright. I just cant get to the online application somehow, it dosent save my quote either!? It tells me that my quote is 195/year, emails me the quote fine, then I click on "continue"...it leads me to the sign in page which of course i created an account, asks "do you have a policy?", i say "no" and bam... i am back on the main page... retrieving quote also dont work and says "nothing exists" and emailing them through the contact address bounces my email back. Thts not really a good sign in my eyes, very fishy... does anyone else has that problem? I tried it now with two different email addresses. How weird is that?

All my dealings with Hagerty have been over the phone. Always pleasant and helpful. I've never done anything through their website.

Try talking to a human instead of a computer program, you will probably be pleasantly surprised.

Hope the input helps.
