Exhaust for a 1972 Newport

Great pics.. I took my 75 NYB to the Shop yesterday, and the guys telling me because the gas tank sits more to the Left / Drivers side between the frame rails, more room of the OE Single exhaust, that he can't do Duals. I see in the pics above, that some Duals were ran ALONG the frame rails. Do they hang to low under the car? can they be seen when looking at the car from the side.. I know, I know!! too many questions..

Thats boolchit. Duals were available from the factory.
Sounds like a poor excuse of a shop or they just didn't want to do it cuz it wasn't a Honda needing a new fart can.

FWIW, I stayed with single exhaust. More than adequate for a smogulated engine.

If you're referring to my pics above, the car was originally a single-exhaust car. The right side pipe is in the original position, but is not the original piece. The left-driver side pipe was added by my muffler man. I agree with Stanley, a good shop can make things happen.

They can be seen from behind, but they do not hang low. Nor do they stick out some 6 inches like I've seen on some cars. Personally, I think such looks bad.

Here is my a picture of my 300. These tailpipes were bent up by Waldron's Exhaust using a set of NOS tailpipes as patterns. Couldn't come up with the correct hangers, so they might hang a little too low.

Thanks for the Honesty Stan.. I've never used these guys before, Looks as though I won't be either.. But its good to hear that It can be done. Although I appreciate the OE Single Exhaust, I think a nicely done Dual set up with some classy Stainless tips tucked under the bumper is the way I'm gonna go.

Skip the tips shooting out from under the bumper. It's not a GTX.
The tailpipes should not be seen in a side view of the car and the tips should turn down behind the bumper.

It's a luxury car, not a muscle car.

My exhaust. Not sure if original, but it has dual pipes. Yes right side pipe did bend when "dropped" it from trailer.
Dont have under pics yet.

in this pic the tranny crossmember is a tad diffrent from the ones on a c body...they tend to be wider...one above is closer allowing that crossover to be close whereas the c body tranny mount has those tubes further apart.....trying to find one with a decent crossover

I disagree with you Stan. Steve Fogel had dual tips behind his 300 Hurst and I think it looked sharp. "Should" is a loaded word. It's the way you would prefer, but there's no law against anything.

I had a guy tell me once that slotted wheels do not belong on a Newport. I told him, "It's not your car." End of discussion.

I'm after some ideas on what to do re- a- new dual exhaust system on the old girl
Would love to see some photos of what other have done on here
Not sure where to have the pipes exist
Right out the back or just behind the back doors or even just over the rear axle?

Hey jono67 your system looks fairly good, the only part I don't agree with is the tailpipes crossing over between the rear axle and chassis - this may compromise your suspension travel ( or not ). Maybe just one cadaver in the trunk at a time and no Duke boy stunts eh

Yeah the guy that made the system took all that into account and we appear to have plenty of clearance even at full compression
Changed the rear shocks today and the old girl sits level and she looks great
