My '66 Fury III

Tried really hard to get it primed today with aspirations of painting Sat/Sun, but looks like color will be another day. Will work on real tail lights, the chrome is pitted bad, I know it goes against the creed to paint them, but they look so bad I am going to try and paint them "tastefully"...down the road I will get some decent chrome ones to put on.

Had some white primer left over, used it for a base/filler, will sand down and shoot with the gray primer to match engine bay....feels like color will be soon.

That went pretty good. Since pump was working, only leaking, did not get into motor side. Cleaned all gunk out of it, installed new seals, shot of primer, bench tested, ready to go back in. Was a fun little project. I will blow out the lines before installing to get rest of old fluid out.

The pump came out pretty nice! Great work! Looks like it's military use only now ;)

Thanks, that etch primer was closest thing I had to right color. Even though it wasn't a hard project, makes me feel good to do something where it has positive results. Finish primer coat is next, then on to paint.....

Bought some whiskers from Topcat, although the quality was pretty good, fitment was off....to my standards. The pics may not show clearly, but on the new ones, the rubber on the back side was thick to the point where the chrome piece did not fit back on the door panel as far as the original. I went and shaved the rubber down on the backside to help with that issue. Helped a little. Have it glued up tonight, will wire it in tomorrow if needed, used Gorilla Glue, pretty good stuff, will see how it looks.IMG_1032.jpg

I know there will many here who despise this part of my project. I felt this was the lesser of 2 evils. The chrome trim around tail lights was pitted pretty bad. Since I don't have the $$ to "fix" them(just dropped $1100 to have both bumpers re-chromed) I went this route. After grinding out the pot metal, sprayed them with truck bed coating, painted and clear coated. It gives it an almost powder coated look. With the yellow paint, they should pop....if the front grill parts don't cleanup good, might do the same. Worse case, I can always pull them off and send to be chromed at a later date....let the bashing begin...
