Still had the cruise control to get working right.
Decided to take a break from the Engine vibration for a bit. It’s really fairly minor but enough to drive me crazy. It was also something I could work on at home.
When I last wrote about it, the cruise control was engaging but only at higher speeds and with help from my right foot.
This is the cleaned up cover from the unit that came with the car... it wasn’t engaging at all.
Some careful checking revealed that the reed valve was stuck between the internal block and vacuum pipe. A little wiggling with a vice grip brought it out enough to allow movement again.
I saved the original bellow to use as a model.
You can see here it’s completely ventilated with holes.
I took the replacement bellows out of the spare unit i was running. Cleaned it and noted that it leaked slightly along the edge. You can see the lack of a “bite” mark at the lower left of this view. Good quality replacement made of silicone with cloth reinforcement.
And..... in
Back in and working... sort of. It now is engaging at 30 mph. But it needs my right foot to help it along.
Cable cover is coming off and I’m thinking the cable may be binding enough to inhibit the bellows from pulling it. Same problem as before but working a little better. Checking vacuum to the unit first and is good.
Checked in series to see if any internal leaks. Vacuum is good at 17” to and inside the transducer unit.
