OK you truckers...

I see thru the online media that belching out black smoke is the latest fad of these morons.
Oh what fun, eh? Bulls balls are so passe “coal rolling,” the act of modifying a truck to spew black soot, has emerged as a phenomena. It seems a certain subset of far-right conservatives has found a physical representation of its gleeful disdain for all things environmental.
“Coal rollers” modify their diesel trucks with smoke stacks and smoke switches, which increases the amount of fuel that is dumped into the engine, causing it to combust improperly and emit a black plume of smoke when the engine is revved.
Apparently it's what Volkswagen execs do in their spare time...

I remember learning the best setup was to have clear exhaust and only slight smoke under full load because smoke = wasted fuel.

Don't anyone cry.

I miss my 13 spd
US27 is a major truck route thru Fumbuck County with a traffic light every 100' so when I'm out I'm always sitting between two rigs at the lights.
I am astonished at how all the fleets are converting to Allisons now.
I look up into the cab and there is another 30 day wonder, with the Bostrom bottomed out so he can drive crouched down gansta style yacking on the phone non-stop not giving a crap about the traffic he's holding back. No shifting, no anything. A chimpanzee behind the wheel.
The whole industry has gone to F&$#ing crap.

ALL military vehicles are automatics now too!

Part of the "anyone can be in the military" mentality that allows females and chimpanzee's that are too stupid to operate a clutch pedal and learn a shift pattern. Of course the "suits" claim automatics are saving money....

Yep, my seat is low, but I have a Peterbilt so I don't think you are allowed to put air in the seat.
You are right about it going to hell/crap whatever adjective you would like. I cannot believe how many drivers could not tell you how to adjust brakes, change fuel filter, or even where the fuse box is. They really have made them too easy to drive.

My step son just signed up for truck driving school. He's 27 and going nowhere fast. His job now is stocking shelves in a VA hospital commissary.

He'll do OK. He's never gonna be a rocket scientist anyway and I think a job driving trucks will suit him.

I knew nothing of the diesels when I started driving Class-B trucks, it didn't take long to figure out what I needed to know, I was the only driver of 8 that would even touch the slack adjusters. I fixed a busted air line on the shoulder when our own mechanics were ready to tow it (I just happen to hit something a couple miles from out warehouse but 50 miles from our mechanic) even the goofy flipped shifter (shift positions were opposite front to rear of what normal shifters are) I had to figure out on my own, hell I taught myself to drive a manual (car) the first day I had my licence.

I have always been a self reliant person and you need to be if you are driving trucks on the open highway.

I have taught many people to drive manuals some never have even driven before, I had a job where all the plant trucks (Chevy Luv) were manuals.

You need a dime, a cage bolt, vice grips, bailing wire and or wire ties, and a test light and I will make it home unless something blows up.

Had a warehouse job with farm chemicals. Spraying season for crops started up and the regular delivery driver transferred to spraying. I inherited the delivery driver slot, never turned a wheel in my life. Was taken on a gravel road and shown how to shift 2 times. Driver hopped out and said there's your training, the rest is self taught. Drove on a permit and in 2 months obtained my class A CDL with endorsements. I got laid off at the end of the season and went to the patch hauling salt water. Learned all I could from mechanics, winch truck drivers and specialty truck drivers, hot oil and vac. When I started there were no mechanics on staff, if your truck was down, you didn't work. Other drivers with broke down units would band together when trucks were down and we worked together to get our trucks up and running. I did the jobs most drivers didn't want to do, but the company needed done. Running a super vac doing **** jobs on the oil rigs like tank cleaning and oil spill clean up. That was 8 years ago.

I recently applied for a job on base hauling fuel to locations, they asked what new truck I wanted. I let them know as long as it had an 18 spd and full lockers the rest was too concerning. They said they were going with an automatic. When I asked why, the manager said what happens when oil picks up and you go back to the patch? I have to hire someone who probably cant drive a stick. I thought about it for a second and said "don't hire him" I'm still looking for work as I wont drive an automatic up this way. Loaded truck, grades, ice and automatics don't mix. Automatics are better suited to the interstate, and FNGs.

Before there were circuit breakers, you learned to always carry a "100A fuse" to get you home.

They didnt teach you that in tractor-trailer school.

That turns my stomach.
