Getting closer! It should be ready tomorrow but I am trying to wait till this weekend to fire it up.

Well tomorrow is the day. I think I am all set to try and get her fired up. I will be filming this as well and will post the video after.

HOOORRRRAAAYYYY! After a stressful start up, the break in process has been completed. Here is a quick video of the first start after the break was done.

Only issue I have at the moment is with the trans. I did have it rebuilt during the rebuilding of the engine. I was able to get 8 1/2 quarts of fuilid in it before starting her up today. The trans guy told me he put 1 in the TC when building it. I kept an eye on it during break in and once break in was done, I made sure it was full.

Problem is, it doesnt want to go into any gears at all. Not sure what's going on there yet.

Check the fluid level in the trans with the engine off, then start the engine and put it in neutral and see if the level drops. Are you sure the torque converter was seated all the way into the pump? If the fluid level doesn't drop the pump isn't working

Hey Thanks @65sporty, Ill check that in the morning.

I'm sure it was seated all the way, as I never took off the bracket the builder installed to keep it in place until it was right before the time to put the bell housing bolts in. There was a very small gap between the TC and the flexplate but not much at all.

@65sporty, I just got done testing, without running, fluid was pretty far up the stick. Started her up and popped into neutral and the level was down between full and add. I didn't let it run long enough to warm up though. But I assume this means the pump is fine?

Nice work, sounds good. Run it in neutral for a while then see if gears work. No, try adding some gas and see if it jumps in gear.

I did that yesterday, I left it run in neutral for about 5 mins and then tried all gears while giving it some gas. Nada

If I jack up the rear and test with some gas, the wheels do move slowly but dont speed up when more gas pedal is added.

Not a warm fuzzy feel on that trans. Almost like the selector valve is not connected.
Yeah I am feeling the same.

The shop that rebuilt did give me a 10k mile/6 month warranty. Problem is that I will have to pull it back out.

The other weird thing is the neutral safety switch. The reverse lights don't light. If pop off the cable and jump the outside 2 wires, they light up fine. The other weird thing is the car wouldn't start with the key in park or neutral. We checked to see how the ground was working on the middle pin and it was super flakey, I would have to jiggle the shifter to get the ground to connect but I still had to bypass it to get her to start.

Been a while since I have had a valve body apart. Sounds like something in shift shaft area.

This would have me questioning the shop that rebuilt the trans, but I wouldn't mess with it to not give them the chance to deny you warranty later on and just send it back

I have to wait to Wednesday to speak to my trans shop so until then, I am getting things buttoned up in case I need to tow it.

I remove the filter and pulled a couple plugs to see what everything looks like. The darker of the 2 plugs is piston #1 and the other is #4. I have only completed break in and started it a few times. How do these look?

I also opened up the oil filter to see how it looked inside. There was some sparkles but not as bad as I would have thought. I assume this is good as well.

To me those plugs looked like it was running rich, I do a have fuel pressure regulator on it and turned it down from 7.5ish to 5psi. Im running a Holley 650

I ended up having the car towed to another shop, they already pulled the trans and checking it out. While it was up on the rack, I took a look at a leak I have at the back of the engine, I guess I should have filled up the rear main seal cap screws holes with silicone as you can see that the pan gasket is finding its way inside there? Weird.. However, while looking at this picture, I noticed a crack on that right side....... I went back through my pictures of when I put it together, which is like one page back in this post and you will see the same crack! I know its only on the outside of the cap but WTH!. Im not sure how I missed that. However, its not leaking from the seal or from that crack. I am debating on dropping the pan some and cleaning off any oil from those cap holes, then fill each hole up with silicone.

I bought a new cap from 440 source and while its up on a rack, I am just going to replace the cap and bottom part of the seal to be on the safe side.
