The Bluesmobile

Stan probably has a complete and period correct Elwood costume already.

Newp.... "Take it apart at the crank arm to motor, Don't F with the bushings..... Ask Bob."

Yep, I can confirm that!

I replaced all the nylon locks/pivots in 2 Dodge trucks ('78 & '81) in the last 3 days, and I think the new pieces were less than $5 for each truck. In the future if you have a decent thumb twittling day, I would replace them, or they will likely $hit out when you need them the most.

Nice and somewhat "restored" was fun while it lasted.... But still not the bluesmobile. Started adding the graphics yesterday.

Here are some reference shots I have been using.

Said goodbye to the virgin paint one last time...

Started off with the P1. Believe I've got the measurments up to the same as the car/s in the movie. Made a stencil out of a paper grocery bag.

Color is rustoleum caterpillar yellow gloss. Closet to a mix of gold, and bronze color I could get out of a spray can.

Next came the "to serve and protect" logo on the fenders. Made the stencil up, then placed it on the car. Cut masking tape to place over spots in the letering to give it the sanded off look.

Today did some weathering on the lettering. First sanded the lettering down a bit, then misted black over them to blend it in a bit better.

Made the trunk lid lettering, and layed it down. Did the same weathering affect on them as well, but to dark to get a picture..

As well as the red primer spot on the front drivers fender. Not as high up as it should be.. Don't want to hide to much of my new shiny paint with red primer, as well as a bit laziness.. lol

Still need to make up the phone numbers for the quater panels. Also waiting for the folks up north to mail me my door start stencil, that somehow got left up there.

Just awesome.

The palm trees in the picture really piss me off though. We've had fifteen inches of snow so far this year....

A trace of snow here so far this winter. It melted the same day. It may even get close to 70 here in the next day or so.

I made Dave's "You Suck" list. :yaayy:

Too bad FLA is so heavily regulated that you can't make money... I have a Florida license but ill prolly never use it. I will very likely move to Naples when I'm done working though.

I read that to mean that they actually make you be insured and you pay all the workers legally.

Nope, wrong again mr. teamster.

I was there in 92 when Andrew hit & they were literally changing the code on a daily basis. The pendulum swung WAY to the left & now it's just plain ridiculous.

To the benefit of the homeowners victimized by shady contractors.
I just don't know how you can say that Ross. Seriously!
I jokingly jab at you a lot but you are dead wrong here.
A zillion successful roofing contractors down here proves it.
Thank GOD for building codes.

I agree 100%. I'm in the board of the building department here & I'm licensed in several states. The Florida license is a 15 hour open book test with a pass rate of 30% or something for first time takers.

i also was a roofer in Florida for eight years so I'm pretty well versed.... They went way too far. A typical roof install in FLA requires 4 inspections & the contractor has to provide ladder access. Ridiculous....

By the way, the reason for the heavy regulation is because they did a terrible job of enforcing the codes prior to 92 & Andrew exposed that in a big way. As I said, I was there watching them scurry to write the code while we were busy trying to clean up the mess & get people dry. Ridiculous.

Success is a relative term. Sure there are plenty of guys making a living but those same guys could actually get ahead if it weren't for unduly burdensome regulation.

You are dead on with that statement. Yah. Pre-Andrew codes were totally inadequate and the knee jerk reaction made the pendulum swing the other way. And I can see from a contractor's viewpoint of how the pendulum swing the other way to the extreme would be totally counter productive.
