The Bluesmobile

Got back to the car finally.

Deff an ameture job on the trunk pocket wall... :shruggy: But it will have to do. Its deff strong!

One good thing, the factory went ape **** with seam sealer in the trunk pockets. So I should be able to hide the seam with the sealer. Heres a crappy pic of the driver side. Theres over an inch of sealer in places. Especially in the back corner. So I may be able to pull off factory correct anywhase! lol

I'm pretty happy with how the quarter panel is coming out. Still have some trimming/bending before welding it on.

Looking good. It has to feel good to get back to working on the car.

Will you be putting a curve into the front edge of the patch panel at the wheel lip? Will you be using a butt joint or a flanged joint?

I'll probably have to pie cut the flange on the wheel lip to put a little bit of a bend in. Luckily there is not much of a curve in it originally. I havn't spent much time on this piece yet. Just spent a half hour tonight bending it a bit, and test fitting it to the car, before calling it a night.

Old

New

I'll be using a but joint weld, to join it with the car. In the pictures above I was just fitting the panel on, and getting the base for where the curve starts on the rear of the panel. There is still a bit of metal on the corner of the first patch I made, that needs to be trimmed off for the butt joint. Need to mark where to trim off once I get the new panel formed, and completely ready to weld.

It is nice getting to work on the car. I've just been lazy lately.... Havn't been to motivated to do all the grinding! lol

Cutting, welding and patching is slow laborious work, i just spent a year working almost every day on my car but its finally done and thank Christ i can put it behind me, i feel for you man. Just remember, once the bodywork is done, its plain sailing after that.

Zac, will you be able to bring it to Carlisle?

Even if it's not done and as long as it's roadworthy it would be cool to see the Blumo and you. Don't forget to stop and put Stan in the trunk. Chris will be at Carlisle and he's the King of Mopar body work. His expert advice along with the rest of us experts (LOL) if you brought it to Carlisle would help you along with the Blumo bodywork.

Thanks wollfen. Yea, its not fun work at all... I like making the panels, and welding em in. Its the grinding I hate!

Hopefully one day I'll be done, and can get to the easier stuff. I couldn't work on it everyday though.. I'd loose my mind! lol

I wish she could make it to carisle Bob! But she will still be on jackstands unfortunatly... I still have the other side to do, wheel wells, in front of the rear tires, and other little spots. After that, then installing the big block.conversion starts.

One day though! I do need to meet up with you guys!

Come on up to Carlisle...it's only a 2 hour flight from Florida. Plenty of us to pick up and drop you off at Baltimore, Philly, or Harrisburg.

Great job, Zac.

And I have Mr C to thank for making this area something I never would have focused so hard on before. Now I can't get it out of my head.

Stan, Idk if I would want to mess with that quarter! Would be a pain with that ridge right in the middle! On top of that, the wheel lip doesn't look fun either!

This patch is coming along nicely,

Been going off of whats left of the driver side, for measurements, and curves.

Pie cut the flange, to put the curve in. After everything looked good, welded it up.

Some more test fitting

After trimming the rear corner back, to meet with this new panel. Tack welded it in place. Placed some more tacks today.

This thing helps to take over the proper contours; no idea how it's called in English.

Great work enjoy seeing the progress. I see you are a Buckeye. Did you go to school there or are you an Ohio transplant? I graduated in '89 in business finance.

Nice work Zac, it's really looking good. I love doing the metal work like this, it's very rewarding.

It gave me fits. What a mo-fo that was.

That makes my brain hurt, but I would love to have the ability to actually successfully preform that metal work. Matt is absolutely correct, nothing more rewarding then pulling off a difficult task.

No, I'm a Michigander living in FL at the moment.. The old lady, and her family are from Ohio originally. They have been all over the place though, being her mom was in the navy. That is her grandmothers fridge in the garage. I wanna plug it in, and have a nice man cave fridge, but the car is kinda in the way.. Ha!
