Can someone please dummy up the explanation of transmission numbers? The on line information is apparently to smart for me and the 10000 day calendar has always been a head scratcher.
What does all this mean?

My Mopar.com has a transguide PDF. I put on my phone to decode any trans I find to see what may be inside.

Your vin will be on pass side bell housing mid way down.

Dave, I guess I need a step by step on how to use My Mopar because I couldn't find the PDF trans guide.

I can't do links but
Tools & reference
General info
Chassis and driveline
Transmission part number guide 62-86

I found the Problem, in your post it linked us to Mopar.com not MyMopar.com. I found it just liked you described it.

The PK is the kokomo plant, 3410667L is the part no. early 70 used until Apr 27 1970, 3062 is the date Dec 15 1969 and 0506 is the daily sequential no, # 506 built that day.
Look on the bellhousing to see if your vin is stamped.

Thank you for the lesson. Ive pulled and reinstalled many transmissions in my day. Before I was 20 I was pulling junkyard transmissions as replacements because I had a problem and liked to do neutral drops. I never knew (if I did I forgot long ago) there was a VIN pad on the passenger side of the bellhousing. :thankyou:Lets hope I can save this one

So, that 440 Rose Bowl convertible that I sold to Nebraska Mike could have very well had the original transmission in it. I do hope so.........

Neutral drops yeah, what about reverse to drive... tends to make some real interesting marks on the road with a sure grip or posi if it's GM. The trans doesn't love it though.:D

When doing neutral drops.
Always yank it all the way to Low1 not just dropping into drive. Going straight to Low1 applies the low reverse band taking the strain off the sprag.

Well I was just putting it out there for general info.
I looked up that transmission I got, it's not there! The list has 39 and 41 but no 40. 71 something or other?

Edit: 72 model year, built Leap Day, Tuesday Feb 29 1972!

The first section is the important number. May not be on that trans guide, safe bet is big block motor home will have 4 pinions and big drum.

Wow that was built on a Monday during the holiday season. Amazing it lasted this long. Then again at 506 could have been later in the day when the hangover was over.

OK, two questions for FCBO experts about the following Transmission Part Number:

PK 3410669L 3190 3288

First, am I correct that I should read it as:

PK = Kokomo transmission plant
3410669 = Part number = 1970 Year model A727 for a 440-4 CID V8 (350 HP)
3190 = Build date = April 22, 1970
3288 = Sequential serial number = 3288th transmission built that day

Second, the car where that transmission came from was built exactly 6 weeks later. Is that a typical gap between the transmission and car building dates?

Is the VIN from your car stamped on it?
