U-haul trailers

Gotta make sure the trailer cg is forward of the axle centerlines. Even a semi trailer will behave poorly loaded heavy on the tail. Like Dave said, hard to adjust weight of a car on those short U haul trailers. Watching how much weight is in the trunk or interior will help.

I have first hand experience here from dodging flack as a rig lost it on M-10 one Sunday afternoon. Guy had an S10 backwards on a car trailer. I could see the tongue bobbing up and down as I came up from behind. Finally lifted the *** end of the empty fullsize p.u. towing, jack-knifed and flipped, ending-up off in the ditch. All from towing a ratty-*** little S10! After pumping the brakes as I dodged pieces and parts at 75mph the adrenalin rush didn’t subside till I hit Bay City.

Agreed! Frustrating carrying a car with restrictions on all that available space inside the car.
I recently loaded the trunk and interior with used & NOS plastic trim and wall art. I likely didn't add 50 pounds to the cars weight and made sure the gas tank is below a quarter tank.

My trailer is a 20 footer with the axles set pretty far back. Even with a large car the weight is forward enough that I've never had any issues. I've even towed a few cars backwards with no problems.

I love that truck. How many miles now? Its been all over the country.
Going on 270,000. Original engine still runs great. Had the transmission rebuilt and beefed up when we bought a big heavy fifth wheel. Trans still worked fine just didn't want trouble on the road.

Just noticed Enterprise near me will rent pretty serious pick ups for towing. I’m thinking this, a u-haul trailer and the Monaco may make it to Carlisle someday.
How about this year? The Illinois caravan could pick you up on the way. @detmatt -- what say you?

U-Haul trailers are a crap shoot. Once in a while you'll get a good one, but those newer trailers don't seem to be around here last time I needed one going to the Nats.
