wow. 90/10 is a landslide ..

so, absent the occasional whiner/moaner/cant please 'em malcontent who trashes us (on perceived or real slights from us in their view) and disappears, what a buncha [REALLY NICE FOLKS] at FCBO?

OR its too early to call this one yet as only the "satisfied" voter precincts have reported in?

Commentary, good or bad, is better for the seller. It keeps the thread alive and will pop up in searches should the right buyer be looking.

It's all in the way comment/criticism is done. I see nothing wrong with (constructively) criticising a car a member has for sale, bearing in mind we all have different ideas and how it was the seller's idea.
All the variations we see from factory restored to jacked up with 33" wheels are amazing let alone that car in Germany totally stripped to a bare shell, that's going to be beautiful when finished.

Keep them coming guys and gals.

Should comment on the good and the bad equally but try to stick to the facts. Shouldn't bash just to be an ***. And realize everyone has their own opinions.

we all got our own style of giving/taking feedback. I have nothing to say about that. AND, i ain't arguing for ANY position or changes in anything here. i'm completely laissez-faire about that also. :)

I like the idea of sparing members from really HARSH pokes ... but what about NON-LOW participation members (especially those folks who DIDNT put their car here for sale)?

Don't they get a modicum of the same consideration as "established" members .. unless they come in guns blazin/name callin, etc .. as well?

If not, why not? If so, why so?

Any benefit to us (and by association our own beloved C-'s) to being the group that "knows stuff" and "calls it like we see it fair and square"?

I haven't evolved since HS I suppose. My friends were all hard core car guys, and all of us work in the industy now. While the "strokers" as we called them were installing hot-pink double-wiper blades on dad's ol' Pontiac 6000, we were swapping cams, axles, etc.

I think that brutality among guys keeps us from crying, wearing skinny jeans, scarfs (indoors), and hopefully from installing hot-pink double-wipers.

But yes, I have somewhat of a filter. I could say a lot of things I don't. Sometimes things might come off worse on the interweb than you intend. For whatever reason, I think white-letter tires look silly on a New Yorker and fine on a 300. I doesn't mean I'd hate the dude with the NY'er. I'm sure people think I shouldn't have put whitewalls on my RMB.

I'll let you in on another secret... I'm lovin this car so much (driving it all winter) that I might keep it and sell my '70 Fury, which is too original to screw around. Then I might paint the RMB black, lightly tint the windows and slap on some 17" torque thrusts I have sitting around. And I won't care who doesn't like it. If I did a half *** job, painted it satin black and used dog-dishes on the most expensive trim level; well then I should be stoned per Sharia law.

I haven't voted yet... which one was the leave it the F%%% alone?

The ad bashing is a big part of the appeal of this place. The nice ones get lots of praise too, and we have an older demographic... trying to figure out WTF some of the prices come from keeps me loving it here.

I think whatever is said about a car should be said, good or bad.

I do also think we influence the market to at least a small degree, if not more influential than that. I used to trade in BMX bikes, and over at that website, so many flippers would pop in, have us evaluate the bike, then pow its on fleabay for 6x what they gave for it, basically cutting us out of our own game. we were helping the flipper. and losing out on good bikes that we could have got at a fair or even cheap price had we not educated the person and been truthful in the evaluation.

sharp sword. look out.

If a member is selling thier car on this board there should be no negative comments, if it's just a car that's been grabbed off the net and the owner is not on this board then it's both no holds barred.
I would want to hear any negative feedback to help me see the car the way others do, hmm. Let's put it to the test. I have my GT for sale at $23 000, you all know the car, give me some feedback!

Im ignorant on the GT's -- the special, little things that drive/hurt their value. I know others here are experts so their vote carries more weight.

BUT, for this exercise, I'll venture to say the number for your car starts with a 2 and its five digits, given what appears to be a fine specimen. I woulda guessed mid-upper 2's tho.

How many members have put a car up for sale (that they own) on this Forum? Maybe 5 or 6???

I wish members selling their cars on this Forum good luck on their sale.

Now for the rest of the 99.9% of the random C/L or EBay for sale listings posted on this forum are fair game. I could care less about slabs and fusies. Even though I like SFGT's and few other cars of that era. I do like the Forward Look cars too but they aren't C-Bodies... When it comes to Formal's and if you think I'm going to put lipstick on a pig and tell you that the asking price of $12k to $15k for a Formal that is barely worth $2500 is a great price....you are mistaken. Rust free, low mileage Formal's are worth more than $2500 granted.... but not $12k to $15k. We don't want flippers (to become a member here) to post mass sale ad's here while buying the cars for $2500 and flipping on this Forum for $12k to $15k because we won't call them as we see them. The true market value of any car is what a person will pay for the car.... The true value is not what Haggerty or some other site say these cars are worth.

I don't want mass PM's asking me what I think about any car and I'll continue to call them as I see them.

And I think that formula has worked great here. Do not screw with it.

I've read two pages and voted for commenting on both strengths and weaknesses.

I think that it's helpful/important to comment on cars for sale because I may see something no one else has and vice versa.

As far as values are concerned, who the h*ll knows? I've over paid for a couple of the Newps because I wanted them and it took a lot of looking before I found them.

I paid $700 for a 2DHT with no engine, an unknown condition trans., and rotten floors and trunk. But I got a Tilt-O-Scope floor shift steering column, power driver's bucket, and reclining passenger's bucket seat. I felt like I stole it. I looked for those parts for 5 years. I found them all in one car 35 minutes away.

I paid $1500+$200 transport for the Darrellmobile. I thought that was too much for that mess of a car. Until I drove my convertible for the first time after resurrecting it from the vandalism. Thank you Darrell, wherever you are.

While I may not be on the same page (or even the same book) with some or possibly a lot of the members here, I value the info and opinions shared.

This may seem corny, but two things my mother taught me:

"You can get a lot farther with honey than with vinegar."

"If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all."

Maybe they're not realistic all of the time, but I carry them with me everyday.

And as I've said before:

We all know that all of our opinions are right.

Hope the input helps.

John
