I guessed it would've been priced at around 14K, at least that's what it should be worth, in my opinion.

i could get to five digits ...except the "whiskey blister" (as another member called it) on driver quarter suggests some other issues?

asking price seems low to me in any event.

a few of you will remember this car from summer 2013. Really "energetic" posts for a couple months, then a flameout. Then it came back to life 2 years later when I caught up with it.

Please let's not relive the 2013 animus (seller didn't like the board's candor, board didnt like sellers "dealer/flipper" vibe, everybody got pissed, it got personal, everybody agreed to disagree, moved on, and thread lived) if can avoid it? Can we look at the car's value with fresh eyes? :)

So, looking at the car objectively from the info below, what was the asking price do you think? Value to you if you were a buyer? Asking price is after the pics.

SELLER DESCRIPTION

I've decided to sell my prize winning 1967 Chrysler Newport Custom Sedan. Just 38K original documented miles. Collector owned, NEVER on an inclement road from new!

A rare "survivor" in near showroom condition. White with absolitely unmarked and "as new" original green interior. Automatic, power steering and brakes, working AM original radio, etc, etc.

Recent (this month) major service (expensive!) included four (4) new radials, new dual exhaust system, new transmission seals front and rear, rean engine main bearing seal, all new pan gaskets both transmission and engine, new fluids, etc. etc.

It doesn't leak ANYTHING, and can be driven at any highway speed across the country. Nicest one you'll EVER see for sale!

Seller wanted $10,250.

Had I been on this board in 2013, that would NOT have alarmed me IF i were in the market for this kinda car.

Five digits to me? no. four digits with a 9 as the first one is where I woulda hopped off the train.

Thoughts?

Not worth anything to me. It's a boring, non descript, sedan.
Better yet, it's the equivalent of a mint, uncirculated, penny.

If I had the cash and needed the car, Im not sure theres a limit if I had to have it and I came into a bidding war.
I think the best this car could do is 10/12

This was the first thread I thought of when I read this thread.

I know the car popped up again with the new owner selling it.

Nice car, seller was kind of a jerk though. I thought that at the time, the car was a little "pricey". Almost 4 years later and if it were offered at that price, I would think it's still a little high, but not out of range. I figure $9K would be a good offer today if I really wanted the car... But as Stan says, it's just a plain Jane sedan that I would have no interest in.

yes sir.

the "smackdown" about this 67 Newport (but I couldnt remember it that well) was in my mind thinking about this thread. plus, it had the flipper angle .. we really seem to HATE "flippers" here.

I am gonna get chided about this (be gentle if you decide to let me have it :) ) but I think flippers are good.

Here's why.

They are "arbs" ("arbitragers"). Arbs" help market prices stay close to what is "fair" by eliminating inefficiencies. And arbs, if they are good, profit handsomely.

And the fact, in our case, that "flippers' profit off C-body transactions, is economic evidence to me that "real prices" for C-'s is HIGHER that we see.

just sayin' :)

I have no problem with flippers.....

My #1 convertible was sold by the original owners for $1,600 to a dealer. They knew the man as a guy who liked old cars, not a flipper. He sells it to the guy in the photo below for 9 grand. Len is a guy who deals in old cars, has a small classic car dealership and is wise enough to take it to Carlisle for resale. I get it for 10,500.

Hell of a profit margin and the original owners/ sellers are floored when they realize the market. Regardless, if the events happen differently I would have never gotten the car. ...... I am grateful

I think that is really true. If you look at used car prices these days, you can't buy a decent used car for the same price as you can buy a nice C body.

Fall 2012 on FCBO. As an aside, this was a good thread back then to me.

A member asking opinions on its value, folks weighing in with good insights, great info exchange/assessment I thought.

Anyway, dunno disposition of this car (member didn't get it unfortunately), and it could have changed hands again (it came to Michigan).

136K miles, 50K on rebuilt short block., real TNT car, console, A/C, a "10 footer" per seller's description. A few minor rust issues in trunk area.

Again, and recognizing it was the middle of the "Depression", asking price back then was $22K. Any guess on what it sold for we think? Answer below the pics.

estimated selling price, consistent with member's assessment, was $12-$15K. About where the Board thought it would be.

My guess woulda been higher - even back then. But, also I would not have guessed $20K or over -- BACK then.

Today? Hmm....?

today? 22/25 ..... Great looking car

And I hate white. Those blue interiors in 70 did NOT hold up well at all

May 2015. We seem to get these right. This thread also had a "debate" about "what is a police car". It was good dialogue .. the people who knew stuff weighed in, and "police-package" cars vs "K" code cars was addressed.

Got to $8100 on ebay and no sale. Dunno its ultimate disposition since it was on Ebay a couple times, though a buddy told me it sold early 2016 (i cannot confirm). I was never a player for it.

Real thing, documented from service days, Texas Wildlife Car. Police-package, P code 400HP, 78K original miles. No A38 on fender tag, was on build sheet (I didnt see it though - seller stated that). Original paint and orginal interior (but it looks too good for that .. though thats original material). Had a quarter panel replacement thought to be from inservice days. For sale as shown.

Thoughts? My thoughts, based on what I would have paid, are below the pics.

April 2014. This one was here.

62K miles, 440 but not TNT, 2 owners, one repaint in Original Tuscan Bronze. still had glass rear window two years before. no A/C. by all accounts, a super nice, original car.

went on ebay and sold. Any guesses for what back then? Now? Selling price after pics.

sold for $13,000. I think somebody got a deal. No? how about $20 today or still not there yet for this one?

I dunno what became of this car. Apparently on Ebay once in 2011. Got one bid at opening price and ended reserve unmet. two months later sold at a BIN price.

What do you think price was?

Civi car built up with what was called an unrestorable police car. On ebay in 2011.

Seller description

It is not an original squad car. It was built from a derelict squad that was way too rough to restore, all parts were transferred to this body. It is powered by a rebuilt 440, 10:1 pistons, MP 268/284 -458 Magnum cam, double roller timing chain, 452 heads with hardened valve seats, and an Edelbrock 6-Pack intake with Holley carbs. The 727 was rebuilt with a mild 2200 stall converter. The 8 3/4 rear has a 3.23 sure grip. It has extra heavy duty suspension and front and rear anti-sway bars and a 140 MPH certified speedometer.

SOLD-1972 Polara (Massachusetts) clone | Bluesmobiles

$8,500, one bid, reserve not met. Then, BIN at $9K and sold two months later

If he didnt do the engine work himself, he's got $5K under the hood. Anybody seen it/know anything about it past 6 years?

Survey ended last Friday.

It's a clear preference for balanced opinions -- 3 outta 4. A fair amount of "keep our mouths shut/doesnt' matter what we say" .. I expected that to be lower but .. :)

Thanks for participating!

My thinking exactly John on not just C-bodyz but D,D.s az well. I can still cross the country without a GPS and don't need or want all the latest bells 'n whistles. Hell I can even parallel park ah C-Bodywhen needed. Just heat in the cold monthz and A/C/ in the hot monthz. I even entertained serious thoughtz back in the mid '80s of buying portable parkin' lot size loadz of A-bodyz off the left coast, bringing 'um back to the rust belt and tweaking and fixing what needz fixing what needz to be fixed and sellin' 'um to the factory ratz but noooo. Hey, My D.D. back then waz ah '63 valiant /6 V200 that I put an electronic ignition and under dash A/C in and drove for 5 1/2 years at an acquisition cost of ah whole $225. The mentality in the factories then and still today iz that they'd rather lease the latest quad cab every other year that retailz for over $50K+ and swap 'um for ah new one at the end of the lease plus pay the mileage over chargez before the acid rain eatz the clear coat off. My current D.D. iz an '87 LeBaron Turbo Coupe with 78K on the clock that's good for 32 MPG in the city that I found and bought in Anaheim, Ca. in October of '14 for $1350.00. With transportation chargez all the way across the country to the other coast+ ah few tweaks that it needed, I'm in it for less then $3500 and It will out live me with nothing more then normal P.M.s. If I wanna really make it "spiffy" I'll D.A. the roof, deck lid, and both quarterz and squirt some color and top coat on it, we'll see? For now every time I stop some where when out and about some one will walk up and ask if it's F/S, lol. Very Happy and still eating Black Angus steaks and washin' it down with Cabernet, lol
