What a Rush

my apologies for the crappy picture. It's a chainsaw file and a brand new no-name pair of locking pliers. The pliers are getting a little dental work tonight. Envision a scene from Marathon Man. "Is it safe?"

Ok, so what are you doing with said file and locking pliers? Going to try and bend the end into a bead shape????? Oh on another note don't you sleep??? You posted at 4 am

I'm often up with some pain from rheumatoid arthritis. Whaaaa..

Anyway, old Dustin Hoffman had one up his sleeve. I modified the pliers and they wouldn't budge the steel pipe. It was drawn, welded tubing and so it was work hardened. Because I am extra smart, and fairly stubborn, I annealed the pipe. Of course, I knew that would burn the zinc plating off it.

Because the pipe was extra stubborn, and evidently a good bit smarter than me, the modified pliers still wouldn't budge it. Sigh. So, I welded a darn bead around each end, etched it clean with muriatic acid, and painted it with yellow zinc primer. Hey, it will match the car.

I also mounted the extensions on the header collectors and now it finally has an oxygen sensor.

I took the lathe to a 3/4" to 1/8" NPT adapter and cut it for an o-ring and shortened the threads considerably to allow it to work in the Mezziere water pump body. That's right. One more(!) temperature sensor. It's been a bit more work than I expected. However, modifications never go down without a fight.

My wife and I are going to see Chris Isaak play tonight. It's not quite Dylan's cup of tea. That's alright. He wouldn't be able to make it anyway.

I gotta get me a sequined suit.

It's a welcome break from the automotive world. The whole band is seriously accomplished musicians.

Wow, I'm late to the party. Nice car, a fast C body is something you don't see every day. Look forward to seeing the new engine running.

I've gotten some work done in the past few weeks.

I routed the fuel lines.

IMG_2577.JPG

I placed the coarse and fine filters. Nothing is strapped down just yet.

The supply fittings are black. The return is red/blue.

It's better than trying to chase them down along some 20' of body to figure out which is which.

Then, I purged the lines to get any trash pushed out of them.

By the way: labels on the fuel cell have yet to be moved. Remember, I'm using the original pickup for the return. This is because the pickup has a tube that allows fuel to return under the surface. That minimizes aeration.
In order to keep trash out of the throttle body, I jumpered supply and return.

No pressure yet, just flowing fuel with the pump and some carefully-attached jumper cables.

What's this???!!!

IMG_2768.JPG

The pressure regulator was removed from the fuel pump in order to have a pressure regulator at the throttle body. In its place was this pretty red plug. It's leaking and we don't even have a pressure regulator in line yet. Here's why:

IMG_2769.JPG

The dadgummed o-ring is too low-profile. I replaced it with the original one that came on the unused pressure regulator. Leak fixed. I flushed the fuel cell and lines with the cheap $20/gallon unleaded "MS-109."

It's not what we're going to be running. That's a wee bit more expensive..

..stay in school, and do your best, buddy.

It's a good thing that I've been into electronics since I was a little boy.

Out with the randomness and unprotected battery connections. I've put some temporary labels here and there as I unwind this mess.

Oh, by the way - many of this vehicles' ORIGINAL wires don't match the colors called out on the schematics for either 1966 or 1967. They often used what they had. Reminds me of a technician who was looking for the light blue wire under the rocker panel of a Ford Probe. He lifted the rocker panel cover and found it. It was right there with all of the other light blue wires. Every stinking one was light blue in that particular harness. The factory must have had a special on light blue wire the day that car was made.
I'm going to draw schematics of what I do. We're losing the external voltage regulator. We're losing several unused wires. We're simplifying where we can and getting hardcore where we need to. More to follow!

:steering::popcorn:I hope to fire it up for the first time when Dylan is in town next week.

Complete with a video of the event for us to enjoy?????
Oh yeah! I won't be the camera man this time though.
The first engine build/vehicle project I was involved in. First start up over three years ago.

Thanks for sharing.
My buddies dad growing up had a 57 Fury with a 318 dual quad and 3 on the tree.
What beautiful cars.
If I ever get FU money, that car would be further up the list than a Hemi E body.

My number one would be a 57 300C

The cheap stuff. They were out of club soda. So, I got off-brand denture tablets. A couple dozen, some water, and some oxygen-cleanser.
