What did you do to your C-body today....

Oh and I added some fender mounted turn signals. Drilling those holes was kind of scary though.

Replaced rear drivers door window motor gears. Plastic was destroyed as you would expect. Having never replaced the rear before, I’ve got to say it was extremely easy compared to the front doors. To replace the front motor gears, the window regulator and everything had to come out. On the rear, three bolts, and just the motor came out easy Peezy. The hardest part of the job was popping the door panels for access. Used can of brake cleaner to get rid of the old grease, packed with supplied grease and maybe a little extra I had, and back in it went. Works great, nice and smooth.

I took UNBREADED for a spin, she did quite well for a spray bomb rebuild. My suspension replacement pieces performed flawlessly, but it still needs an alignment. As expected. No more noise when you go over a bump.

Thanks to the city planner and making our blocks from extremely long, I was able to get some runs under acceleration. The carb needs a proper rebuild, but that will be tossed when I rebuild the engine and go with a four barrel. It kicks down for what a two barrel can kick down for. Has a massive stumble when turning left or right, but comes to life once pointed straight. As worn as this engine is, it has some spark of life when you punch it.

I still have no brake lights, as I have not investigated them for one second. Dash lights barely work, but technically the speedometer has light, my eyes see nothing. More to follow...

The 72 440 I got (for short money) a few months ago came home with the hope that the motor, trans and rear might be good. Today I found out that they are good. Very good in fact.
Last month it got new tank, sender, lines, fuel pump, filter and battery. That was enough to get it to light off at the time.
Got back on it today.
And it ran like, well, it ran bad. Bad as in a big bag of odorous excrement. Very nervous and fidgety motor. A pinging like a ten to one motor on 87. But, a nice quiet motor inside. Nice 30 psi hot idle oil pressure, 180 temp, and the radiator held pressure until cool down. No leaks. No tail pipe anything after 10 minutes.
From there things went really well.
Found initial unplugged timing at----- "25 degrees BTDC"-------!!! Moved it to 10. Moved distributor vacuum line from manifold to ported. Moved booster line from "PCV VALVE" to manifold. Moved valve cover breather line from "manifold" to air cleaner.

Runs good now, plenty of snort to.

The "new" Holley that came on the car adjusted up nice. Hate this Holley. Wrong choke, wrong linkage, wrong air cleaner. The old AVS in the trunk looks clean and not messed with, shafts are tight. So, we'll be going with that. Because the brand spanking new cheap butt Holley don't want to let gas inside sometimes and I ain't goanna mess with it.
We are now cleared to start spending $$$$$$$$$$$$.
Oh, no rust.

I hit the Cars-n-Coffee this morning with the Imperial and saw quite a few Mopars, including a couple of A12 clones, owned by the same couple. Drove around with pretty spectacular weather around. Then, I used the always-dependable Ford 4000 Diesel tractor mowing the rest of the pasture this morning.

My son and I took our cars for a nice drive around the lake on Sunday. Our little two-car rolling car show. Me driving my Imperial, and my son with his '76 Buick. A near-perfect 75* day, no wind, no traffic and lots of sunshine. Perfect for top-down cruising around!

This coming Saturday will be the Hot Rod 100 driving event; this will be my eighth such event to participate in, with four each in the Imperial and the Coronet. The following Saturday (30 Sep) will be racing and a car show in Bristow, Oklahoma. On 7 Oct will be our local Mopar Club event; our 40th show! The following weekend (12-14 Oct) is the NSRA Street Rod Mini-Nats here at the Fairgrounds in OKC, which was moved from July because of the heat. Summertime is miserable for car events in Oklahoma. I get out to the September-October events, as that is a far more enjoyable time of the year to play with cars.

On Sunday I went for a drive to check out a western Canada 73 Imperial. This Imperial belongs to @Chris RB. Very solid unmolested all original low options Imperial. The sent when I sat in the cloth seats brought back so many memories of my dealership days.
Needs some sorting out but he is well on his way to bringing it back to the road.
This is a good link for helping restore the original paint. The Secret to Removing Oxidation and Restoring a Show Car Finish to Antique Single Stage Paints
I want to get this Imperial polished up.

Thanks again @Boydsdodge for stopping by and helping me out on Sunday, I really appreciated it. I too would like to see it looking as presentable as Tux someday :D
Cheers!

Maiden voyage for the 72 New Yorker today. 90-mile round trip interstate ride.
Shes needs a lot of love.

Shocks, tune-up, carb, alignment, brakes turned, master cylinder, balance the new tires, sway bushings, exhaust manifold leak, twin glass pack delete, a/c fixed, various light bulbs, window switches, battery. All the usual suspect stuff.

But the big surprise? The door/window weatherstripping is "all' good at 75 mph.

I think that what happened to the old girl, is things just didn't get done for the last thirty years and 40k miles, after decent maintenance for about the first twenty years and 80k miles. That's how she presents in her present condition.

Spent the last 2 weeks driving the Fury nearly daily with the great weather we have here. Located & installed the original brass fittings to go along with my rebuilt master cyl & disc booster. Changed fluids & put in storage today, I miss it already.
