What do you do for cup holders?

I use an old thing I actually had in my '84 Fifth Avenue years before I bought my Newport. Used it in my '62 New Yorker too. It is so old it has slots to hold cassette tapes! It works, but the cup holders are not very deep so I have to hold anything that's in them if I'm turning a corner. You can see it at the bottom right of the picture.

Cupholders Plus has a bunch of different ones. Big choice of colors too. The one pictured is for a bench seat. They also have tall ones that fit between buckets. Mopar Consoles & Cup Holders w/ Storage | CupHoldersPlus

I got mine from cup holders plus. I think the model was called ‘hump hugger’. I requested swatches of the blue vinyl and found a near perfect match to the new upholstery I did in the front seat. Got one for the kids in the back too.

Lots of great suggestions! I have a bench seat so I can’t have anything “between” the seats.

I did consider making my own.

I also looked into the websites provided. Whoo. They ain’t cheap.

I didn’t like what was out there so I made my own. I may have gotten a little carried away.

Or my painted auto store version. I Velcro’d underneath so it would stick to the carpet and the edge is trapped underneath the seat. It never tipped over or moved even with my big Yeti.

My wife always has to hold my quart of Colt 45 when we cruise.

Nice thread, subscribed.

Question though, how are the hump mounted units secured? Or are they just heavy/form-fitting enough for them to stay put?

A bit form fitted but they also have a pointed bottom that holds to the carpet so it isn't sliding all over creation.

Before I built mine for the hump I considered something like this that would screw into the seat frame but couldn't bring myself to drill holes. But considering how top heavy full cups can be and the need to firmly anchor it this method does make sense. Moves with the seat too and wouldn't take up elbow room on top of the seat. Also marine websites have some different styles too.

mine has flexible ‘tabs’ that you bend to “hug” the hump. I suppose that’s where they got this models name from. The top of the tabs are also wrapped in the same color matching vinyl. The bottom has that non-slip material you’d use on a rug on a wood floor.

I do like mine because it looks OEM, but admittedly if I hit the brakes hard, it’s probably going to end up down in the footwell.

I didn't soley trust the spikes on my hump mounted one, but strategically mounted velcro did wonders. I swear it will rip my carpet out before it come loose.

I got a 73 Newport. I’m curious what you guys do for cup holders because I sure like having a place to put my drink. The current situation is putting a cold drink between the legs isn’t working out namely because I can’t feel anything anymore and I end up looking like I pissed myself.
Back in the day it was necessary to have the coordination to hold your drink and steer, shift, signal, smoke, and eat at the same time... and importantly, if the beverage was a beer, to keep it below window level in case a cop drove by.

This has given way to use of a cell phone as a all encompassing entertainment/work/social device... for example I just saw someone today juggling the phone, a cigarette, a beverage, the steering wheel and his penis... no turn signals were used and he wasn't manually shifting... but given any unexpected road situation, which of these do you think he was neglecting the most? Hint... unlikely to be the phone or penis.

I'll go with "Not wearing a Seat Belt" for $500 Alex!

I was in Michael's yesterday and Air Dry Clay caught my eye. Its heavy and you could form it over a hump or anything really. Make indentations for your cup , phone holder, an ash tray and a USB charger. And why not make a place for your penis to rest while your at it.

Of course this assumes some amount of creativity. And I'm not sure exactly how much clay, $$ wise, would be needed, Those simple plastic holders are cheap.
